Advise welcome on showing my dog for the first time!!

Hi,

I have a full pedigree chocolate Lab, and from looking at all his papers and family tree back ground, all his family were all shown in different shows, and he seems to come from a long line of champs!!
He is now 3 years old and I would be very grateful for any advise on how to get started in finding out about different show there may be and where abouts they are, and how u go about getting entered for them, as I dont really no where I should be looking.

Any advise very welcome,

Thank You.

Hi You cannot really go by Champions etc and show dogs in his ped. Your better if you could go back to who bred him and ask them to evaluate him for you re show quality.
It is harder to start showing with a dog at 3years old, not impossible but harder as they have had no training for the ring.
The dog papers always have show dates and info, but I would ask the breeder of your dog first and try and find any Ringcraft training near you

Hi,

Thanks for your reply!! I will try and get back in touch with the breeders, and see what I can find out!! Its not something that I have ever thought about before, but each time we go out for our walks, people keep asking us have we ever considered showing him! so its all very new to me, never really thought about looking into it before now!
Thank you for your help and advise.

Hopefully the breeder can advice you either way. There are also Companion and fun shows that you could go to and have fun. Let me know how you get on with the breeder

Hi Kellyann,

Good advice from Clueless there. Have a look at the two sites below - they have lots of information for beginners about showing and what's entailed.

dog.biz the online entry community

Dog Showing | The Kennel Club

It's great fun - but it's very addictive!

Hi Kellyann,
although you have your dogs pedigree you didnt say if he was kennel Club registered...............if he isn't then you cant how him in other than companion shows, certainly if he is then you should be looking for ringcraft classes near you, where in the country are you? maybe someone on here may be able to help suggesting a class for you.
Pauline
ps....stupid me..just noticed you are in Derbyshire!....a bit too far for me to be much help i'm afraid
