Smile Show bits !!!

Hi All
Can anyone tell me some good websites to buy bits to start showing.

I mean things like scissors (what ones are the best to buy), towelling coat - when bathed this helps to dry off quicker and keeps the coat flat, etc etc
I went to show a few weeks ago this is where i saw a few dogs with these towelling coats but I can't find them on the net. Ive just managed to buy a good bristle brush on e-bay (what a bargain).

Im just starting to get things together, but being a complete novice Im not so sure just what I may need.

Thanks to all

When do you start showing what date ?? and are you going to Bath Champ show Grooming tools are very personal and what suits one will not suit another when buying scissors you are better off feeling the weight and the way they scissor it makes a huge difference both my mother and I use totally different scissors it is really personal preference. Towelling coats can be bought at the champ shows as well I buy mine off Overhill they have a website as they are a quarantine kennel but dont know if they sell their goods on there, If you can make Bath I will be there and will give you some advice on what you need and then you can try them out

Re: Show bits !!!

Hi Tashi

Im doing Devon County Show on 17th May, then Im thinking of going to South Wales Kennel Association champ show on 5th July and possibly Paignton on 6th August. Thats the ones I know of at the moment - I don't want to go to too many, (Im saying that at the moment because its all very scary having never shown before, but Im told once you get a place, it takes over and you want to go more and more).

I still need to learn how to clip and get my pup ready for a show, but I suppose all you guys had to start at the beginning and learn as you went on - I find it all a bit nerve racking at the moment.

I will have a look for the Overhill website, see what I can find.

Thank you

Re: Show bits !!!

Will be at SWKA usually work the four days there on the gate so if you are not sorted by then will come and look with you in my break you are best off leaving the scissors at least until then and no doubt someone will be on hand to help you at devon county. I wont be hard to find at SWKA at least cos there is normally only two gates and if you ask at one gate they will tell you where i am.

Beware of the cheaper brushes and combs etc as they tend to rust quite quickly or the coating flakes on them I dont know whether a friend of mine is going to devon will ask her and then see if she can help you out with the brushes

Re: Show bits !!!

I just didn't want to go spending a fortune on loads of things, to find that showing wasn't for me. I had a look at some Mason & Pearson bristle brushes and the smallest one was £22 - I think my husband would divorce me if I spent that sort of money on a brush for the dog. If I really get into showing and things are going well I will defintely get as best quality as I can afford.

Re: Show bits !!!

Hi

We dont have a Sallys near us but there is a hair/beauty/holistic supplier called Aston & Fincher, I will try them.

I bought a 100% bristle brush from a professional hair dressing supplier on the net, it arrived yesterday and Im quite pleased with it. I also found a company on the net called Groomers, they seem to have a lot of nice bits.

Re: Show bits !!!

Have you thought of finding a ringcraft class to go to. We too are brand new to showing, and have found this invaluable to teach me what to do at shows, as well as getting lots of help with any other items like yours. I was also advised to try going to open shows with Bonnie before trying champ shows, although it is fun to visit those without the dog and spend lots of money on equipment!

Of course, Bonnie dropped her coat just as I felt we were ready to show! We have been to 4 shows so far, and came last at 3 of them, although we were placed each time as entries were small. I'm hoping Bonnie will develop a decent coat for the Shetland sheepdog club show at Solihull in June, as I have entered her for 2 classes. Of course, she could well put paid to this, as she hasn't had her 1st season yet!

Best of luck with your showing! As people keep telling me " We all take the best dog home". You'll meet some super, helpful people at shows if you are as fortunate as I was!

Enjoy yourself
Louise

Re: Show bits !!!

Hi Weaver
Yes we already go to ringcraft classes, but I never seem to find time to ask about brushes/scissors etc as just so busy getting the walking/stacking bits correct. I will ask next time and see if anyone can help. I am off to Devon County show next weekend so there may be some suppliers there.

Good luck with your future in showing - next week is my very first......aaahhhhhh I am so nervous.
