Darcy the Deerhound is using her birthday to once again raise funds to help find a cure for Osteosarcoma in dogs. Darcy was diagnosed with the disease on 16th October 2007 and was treated with chemotherapy after amputation of her front right leg. UK statistics show that in 98% of cases of dogs diagnosed with osteosarcoma, the disease has already spread before you even have your first inkling that your dog has got it.
So, now that we head towards 41 months since Darcys diagnosis of osteo - as well as celebrating the fact that Darcy is well and happy and enjoying life - it is vital that we raise yet more money towards research into this beast of a disease.
This year we are organising a week long party on the web which will include a dog photo show with many fun classes, all of which will be judged by well known author and fellow dog lover, Trisha Ashley. We are also running an online auction. There are some lovely things there already including collars, toys, a weeks break in a lovely dog friendly cottage plus more. If you have anything to donate for our auction, please do!
And, this year we are offering Darcy T Shirts and bags for people to buy and wear with pride as a way of supporting Darcys cause

All funds raised from this event will go to The Greyhound Health and Wellness Program at Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Although the word greyhound is in the title, the research carried out as part of the wellness programme will of course help other dogs as well as greyhounds.
As well as research, Dr Couto and his team also offer a consultation service for owners, vets and anyone else who may need to have x-rays looked at to see if a lesion looks to be osteosarcoma. That consultation service could save time and in turn, a life.
