Collar lead set or separate collar and lead?

Little show lead help wanted.

Do I go for collar lead set or separate collar and lead?

And normal (full) collar or half check?

What do you train on a half check or a collar

in that case you may be better off sticking with the collar one tibetan baby likes a collar the other goes better on the half check depends which they prefer and they are happiest on

I like seperate sets as you already know! I use a half check or normal collar depending what mood they are in.. Collar it better for getting them to keep their heads up if they are more interested in sniffing the floor. Use a half check if they are going to try pull me off my feet. I'm pretty sure at ringcraft the sheltie people use a snake chain/half check.

Re: Collar lead set or separate collar and lead?

I spoke to a couple of the sheltie breeders and the one I love the most is the one they suggested.

Apparently it would be easy to train the pup better in general with a half check so when I get paid in 2 weeks I shall get it and see how it goes.

I use a half check show set for Holly, similar to the ones that you've posted. We only have one at the moment, it's rolled leather, the puppy one we gave back to the breeder. I want to get another one though.

i prefer a thin choke chain and leather lead.. each to their own its what you and the dog are both comfortable with.

This is the type that I use on Benji, he's always had a leather collar and when it came to showing him, he wouldn't move for the nylon ones so I bought him one like this. He knows which is which too

Rusty has one too but he either doesn't know the difference or just doesn't care lol, he gets all excited til he gets in the car, then he sulks a bit

Tipsy definately knows the difference between hers and the walking set cos she gets all hyper and barky with the walking set but hides when she sees her show set coming out... awww love her

Tux would be happy to go with anything as long as he gets to strut his stuff... little poser

Re: Collar lead set or separate collar and lead?

I use a thin rolled leather slip lead from Hub International, which is nice but a bit tricky to use. One imprtant thing, for me, is having a lead which is exactly the right length for moving the dog, so I'm no messing around winding up huge amounts of lead all the time. Essenjay, would be a good place to get a custom made show set of any type. They're at most champ shows.
