Anyone Cutting Back On Showing?

What with the price of petrol/diesel going through the roof, and the general price of living going up too, is anyone going to be cutting back on their showing this year?

We definately are going to have to cut back a bit, and we will be taking the caravan to more shows through the summer to avoid multiple journeys as we have breeds in 3 groups We will be picking and choosing shows and judges more carefully too..

Lets hope the show societies think about dropping the ever rising entries fees to make things a little easier on the exhibitors...

Re: Anyone Cutting Back On Showing?

I'm thinking about not doing loads of things now because the costs are escalating so much and in the South, you end up driving everywhere for everything! I can't imagine what the government are thinking, let alone show co-ordinators. I hope they do make some changes or numbers will be lower for many things this year

Re: Anyone Cutting Back On Showing?

I've not been entering as many. I know they are only a few pounds a class at open shows but it soon adds up and now with 2 dogs I'm going to be even more fussy. I'll probaly cut back to 2/3 open shows a month but we normaly go to one every week. Friend shows 5 dogs every week at atleast 1 open show a week. How she affords it I'll never know

Champion show wise I'll be doing Crufts, SKC May, Border Union, Blackpool, Poodle Club of Scotland, SKC August and if I don't get them qualified for Crufts and I can afford it BUBA and LKA. Only got a chance to qualify at SKC May and PCOS. Will be pulling out all the stops at those 2 so there is no more expenses

Re: Anyone Cutting Back On Showing?

Last year i only done three Champ shows, and a few more open so didn't go too mad
This Year i would like to do a few more Champ shows really ...as my wee man has started to mature quite nicely but i will cut back on Open shows.
I also love to take my male Lab to companion shows he absolutely loves showing
Not so bad i only have one to show really at a higher level, i imagine people with a few dogs it would cost a fortune!

Re: Anyone Cutting Back On Showing?

We cut back quite a bit last year. Time was we would be at just about every champ show - ahh, those were the days! - but we just cannot afford to do that now. Like DD we will do the club shows, and then we will pick and choose our champs shows very carefully, taking into consideration things like distance to travel, what classes they have for our dogs, whether or not they are holding YKC stakes/handling qualifiers. We are also looking for local open shows (there are usually quite a lot a Newark) that hold YKC qualifiers.

Sigh - the times they are a-changin'!
