Exclamation Stanley, Fell Terrier X Bedlington, 2 years old needs home!

Stanley, Fell Terrier X Bedlington, 2 years old needs home!

History: We believe he was owned by an elderly couple who couldn't accept his excitable moments!

Salient points: Attractive middle-sized terrier with non-moult coat. Loves people to the point that he gets excited when they arrive. Mixes well with dogs outside. Unassessed inside with other dogs.

Advert: Stanley is a very good looking terrier who was homed with an elderly couple who were a little out of their depth with this 'working type' terrier. We have to say however, that in our books, Stanley is presenting as a calm terrier who is coping well in kennels and generally adored by all he meets.

Stanley has been cared for and came to us neutered and in good health. He needs a groom which a volunteer has offered to do for us. He has a good nature, but obviously we are keen to ensure Stanley goes to his next family and, as his forever family, that they are able to enjoy his terrier nature and ways. What a lucky family that will be! We also happen to have his litter sister in our rescue. We have not cat tested and are not sure he would live with another dog(s) as he appears to have been an only dog. A sweetheart through and through.

"Please note that this dog is currently in kennels and is also available for foster until a 'forever' home is found".

Re: Stanley, Fell Terrier X Bedlington, 2 years old needs home!

Lovely, lovely Stanley.. had a lovely walk with Mac - then a rest, then another walk, then a rest, then another walk, then a

and again..

and just for a change ..

We came to the conclusion that he was trying to have the longest walk of the day and "pretended" he was tired so he could stay out longer.. needless to say it was a very long and painful walk.. but we didn't mind one bit coz he's a lovely boy and we enjoyed his company. Clever boy this one

At Last Stanley's time has come and oh to such special people and a very, very special companion Fox Terrier called Alice

So Stanley and Alice like a Victoriana couple are getting to know each other and Alice is learning to share her life with a new friend.

Stanley found a new companion and his forever home today!

Re: Stanley, Fell Terrier X Bedlington, 2 years old needs home!

Unfortunately Stanley has come back to us as things didn't work out with his new girlfriend. We have re-written his ad ... here it is:

Stanley, Fell Terrier x Bedlington, 4 years old

His Story: Stanley was owned by an older couple who obviously ‘babied’ him and weren’t able to cope with terrier ways. He spent 5 months in kennels before he came to us & a further 2 months with us then homed. Unfortunately his homing didn’t work out, but we have learnt so much about Stanley's needs.

Salient points: Stanley gives an aloof air coupled with deep bonding which has led to 'separation anxiety'. Mixes well with dogs once he relaxes, but might have to test them out initially. Muzzled to enable initial introductions to go well in high dog density areas as with so many terriers. Needs terrier experienced home who can reassure yet stretch Stanley beyond his 'comfort zone'

Advert: Stanley is a handsome 4 year old Fell (x Bedlington?)terrier with striking looks and a loving nature. We now know what we are looking for for Stanley. Everything for Stanley rests around his focused comfort zone "being with his ‘beloved’ person" ideally on the lap and having lovely walks. He needs a home where there is the balance of ‘companion pet' i.e. sleeps in the bedroom in his crate and living an ordinary relaxed life full of dog activites. Stanley suffers from separation anxiety which manifests in acute anxiety at being apart from his ‘special’ person so a constructive programme with multiple bonding encouraged to avoid the need for ‘weaning’ as he clings and claims his special person soon upon homing. Stanley needs to find his identity independent of merging it into others. Special boy with special needs. Could live with another or other tolerant dog companions as he is still working through the 'only dog' syndrome. He walks beautifully on the lead until he sees a dog or squirrel then he sparkles, but relaxes with confident management. Once his energy is flowing he relaxes into a cheerful chappie! Stanley has a tight non-moult coat which needs attention every 4-6 months. Stanley is neutered, chipped and vax'd.

Easy to manage in kennels and good in a home. He mixes well with respectful visiting children and visitors in general. Would benefit from a home that understands his terrier nature and makes allowances for it so he can enjoy it also! Stanley is a super terrier.

"Please note that this dog is currently in kennels and is also available for foster until a 'forever' home is found".

Re: Stanley, Fell Terrier X Bedlington, 2 years old needs home!

Here is an update from one of our volunteer kennel walkers:

"I had the real pleasure of taking Stanley out for a while today. He was a bit subdued and nervous to start with but that didn't last for long. He's very affectionate and loves being cuddled, squeezed, stroked and tickled. I think I spent a bit too much time doing this!
He was very easy to walk on the lead and he stayed close by most of the time.

We had lunch in the car and he did get very excited when we saw another dog getting out of a car next to us. We saw a few other dogs on the common but didn't actually meet any face to face. We saw 2 rabbits and loads of birds and he took no notice at all.
I chatted with an elderly gentleman for a while and Stanley was happy to sit and wait until we'd finished. This dog has manners!

I think Stanley seemed to become more confident the more we walked. It won't be long before that cheeky terrier comes out.

It broke my heart when he kept standing at the kennel gate every time I went to leave
After only knowing him for a few hours it's obvious to me that this little guy has so many good points - I have no doubt that some lucky people will find him soon".

Re: Stanley, Fell Terrier X Bedlington, 2 years old needs home!

Another update from one of our volunteer kennel walkers ...

Stan the Man was definitely a different dog from the one I took out last week. He was much more confident, interested in everything going on around him and he even pulled on the lead - just a bit. He also had quite few admirers today and enjoyed being made a fuss of. I love spending time with him - he's got such a lot to give.

I had trouble taking photos of Stan the Man today as he wouldn't keep still for long enough. I don't know how I managed to catch him winking! Lovely boy.

Re: Stanley, Fell Terrier X Bedlington, 2 years old needs home!

An update from Lynne who walked Stanley yesterday …

“The picture I hesitated taking, but sums up a lot of our walk together!

Handsome dog you!

Stanley had a lovely walk this afternoon. He, like Tia, ate a lot of grass, had a lot of smells, hardly any wees and didn't pull at all. We didn't meet any dogs. A really pleasant autumn afternoon at a leisurely pace”.

Re: Stanley, Fell Terrier X Bedlington, 2 years old needs home!

An update from one of our volunteer kennel walkers ...

"Stanley was a very happy chappy today. His tail never stopped wagging all the time we were walking. I think it was probably because he hasn't been out and about for a few days. He was a pleasure to walk as usual only more so today as he seemed to be smiling at us. It's always hard to leave him in his kennel. His turn must be coming up soon".
