Re: Stanley, Fell Terrier X Bedlington, 2 years old needs home!
Stanley has been in foster for a while with Gustav, but came back to kennels today. Here is an update from his thread:
"Well yes Stanley did make Gustav very very happy, but Gustav has gone and bucked the trend and landed himself a great job..so Stanley had to come back into kennels today. Gustav has done a great job with him..he has put on the weight he lost; presented beautifully clean and pampered! He proved himself to settle quite well when left just a little scratching on the door and found in "sleep mode" on the settee on return. He is exciteable around most dogs when meeting them outside and needs gentle controlled intros...London parks weren't the best environment as dog density is high. He loved his food and cuddles/ belly rubs/ and greeted visiting friends very well. He has acquired the label 'food thief' no casual meals left on coffee tables whilst you go and get the remote controls! Stanley spent most of today with me travelling to Gatwick S..waiting in the car A little car damage done in the hour he was left so best crated if you're car proud, which I have long since ceased to be! Had a lovely walked around the Devil's punchbowl where he saw a Labrador and was cool and calm; he shared my cheese sandwich which he delighted in. Stanley travelling as my companion..the lead is how I secure a terrier, to avoid them leaping out the car on arrival". ![]() Our walk in the wet ![]() ![]()

Re: Stanley, Fell Terrier X Bedlington, 2 years old needs home!
An update on Stanley from one of our volunteer kennel walkers:
"Stanley had been doing too much 'boinging' in his kennel this morning and his paws were looking a bit sore. We had a long leisurely walk with lots of belly rubs. He's such a softy and really needs to be on somebody's lap right now. He's looking great with a bit more weight on him and especially smart in the RR bandana (thanks TinaD!!) We're going to walk Stanley with our 2 tomorrow - should be interesting! ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: Stanley, Fell Terrier X Bedlington, 2 years old needs home!
An update from one of our kennels walkers:
"Well Stanley's paws were sore and bloody when we went to collect him on Saturday and he was struggling to walk, so we carried him to the car and brought him home to give him a bit of time to heal and to spend some time with Paddy (JRT) and Bella (GSD x) When we got home, he walked in, inspected the kitchen and lounge, followed closely by a bemused Paddy and Bella, and made himself at home on a mat. Not quite what I was expecting - it's usually a bit of a madhouse when we have visiting dogs! Over the last couple of days, Paddy has tried so hard to get Stanley to play with him, but Stanley wasn't having any of it. He even showed him how to steal a pair of socks - still no interest. Stanley much prefers to chill out, lounge about and sleep! He really didn't pay much attention to Paddy or Bella and Bella tried to pretend he wasn't there. Stanley is a sweet, cuddly, affectionate little man, with quite a stubborn streak. He does like to do what he wants to do so needs to know what's allowed and what's not. He pushes his way to the front for attention and food so we made a point of making him wait until last - he accepted this very well. He does respond to firm commands - first of all he puts on his 'soppy' face and when he doesn't get his own way, out comes the 'sulky' face, but he gets over it! Very crafty boy. He's a real pleasure to have around - he likes to be fussed, loves tummy tickles, would follow you everywhere if you'd let him, loves his food and loves human company. He really would make a loyal and devoted friend. We managed to put cream on his feet when he arrived but when we tried again later, there was no way he was going to let anyone touch his back feet - he told us in no uncertain terms. He did tell Paddy off a couple of times for going near his back feet too (and also for keep pestering him to play when he didn't want to!) We're about to take Stanley back now - his feet are a lot better and he's walking really well. The sad thing is, it's going to happen again as he really doesn't like being in kennels. I hope somebody takes him home soon, permanently"! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() P'Are you coming out to play?' S 'Go away!' ![]()

Re: Stanley, Fell Terrier X Bedlington, 2 years old needs home!
Stanley has gone into foster for a weekend break as his paws are sore again and he needed a break from kennels.
This morning Stanley decided that it might be nice to join Paddy and Bella for a few minutes tearing around like mad things. Great to see - shame the camera wasn't handy ![]() ![]() ![]() He is still looking for a foster or forever home.

Re: Stanley, Fell Terrier X Bedlington, 2 years old needs home!
An update from one of our volunteer kennel walkers who has give Stanley a couple of days break from kennels to help is sore paws heal ...
“Poor Stanley had very sore feet, so we brought him home again for a few more days to give him time to relax and heal and to give him a break from his kennel. It was a good opportunity to get to know him a bit better too. Paddy and Bella welcomed him back and they spent every day and evening together without any problems at all. Stanley isn't one for joining in with play, although Paddy did succeed in getting him to chase him a bit once or twice. I don't really think Stanley knows how to play with other dogs and is happy to play with a ball on his own, but I'm sure over time, if he lives with another dog, he will learn as he's a really clever boy. Stanley is a real food monster. He knows where all the food in the house is and is there like a shot when you open any drawer, cupboard, door. He likes coffee and I caught him gently carrying off Mum's china cup to lick the coffee drops from inside. He also silently pinched an empty turkey packet from the bin. There definitely is a cheeky terrier in there and it only takes a few days to come out. Getting his own way is very high on Stanley's agenda. I think he must keep a little diary in his head of tactics that have worked, both present and past. He will try anything - from special looks, to actions such as sitting up on his back legs with 1 foot in the air and if that fails, both feet in the air. If all else fails, he rolls over on his back and gives you the look at the same time. It's hard not to give in, but he does need boundaries with firmness, consistency and patience. He generally does as he's told after telling him 3 times - which isn't bad at all! Stanley needs his home soon! He's come on in leaps and bounds in only a few days. He would be great as an only dog, but he can live with others provided he knows what he's allowed to do and what he's not. He doesn't need much to make him happy, and he's got such a lot to give in return”. ![]()
