Exclamation Chancer, 1 year old Staffie X needs home!

Chancer was found stray like so many Staffie x's & Staffies. She is under 1 year old and so is full of fun, laughter and life. She is a people dog with such a whow personality, albeit it still maturing. Chancer is truly loved by all and has that "special" label. She needs to be met to fully appreciate.

Chancer, we think, hasn't been well socialised with dogs as a puppy. She can engage clumsily and, if not guided, it can go wrong. However, it is increasing going right and she is gaining confidence over time. She is learning all about manners on the lead and how to cope with the hectic dog environment of the kennels; not reacting to kennel life as she was on arrival. Chancer is about 18" to the shoulder ... in pictures she can look taller than she is.

Chancer needs a dog experienced family who can help her in the next 6 months develop into the remarkable dog she is so destined to be. She needs firm, but kind boundaries and she so wants company. Ideally one partner not working or shift rotation or part time overlap. Day time company might also help but we do get the sense that not only is Chancer young; she is emotionally sensitive and needs time to find herself and develop skills. Chancer is spayed, chipped and finishing her vax'd status.

An update from one of our Volunteer Dog Walker – Chancer is still looking for a foster or forever home:

Quote:
Chancer is such a lovely, lovely dog: really obedient, will sit on the first command each time and has great recall as well. Loves her cuddles and tummy rubs. Just a stunning, beautiful girl!! I also noticed last week she LOVES wading through puddles, went out of her way to walk in them, hehe. She even trotted through the one dried up muddy one we passed today. I bet this girl would absolutely adore days out to the beach with her new forever family.

Chancer modelling her halti which means she walks much better, much more relaxed.

Re: Chancer, 1 year old Staffie X needs home!

An update from our walkers on Chancer:

Oh Chancer!

Come here... we love you!

Had a lovely time today with Mark and Kate. Mark jogged with her a little way which she really loved (one way to keep her from paying too much interest in other dogs)! But on a serious note: we really looked at Chancer today, she so wants to get close to dogs, but play nips in an attempt to engage with them ... we are sooo used to this with Terriers that haven't had the chance to be socialised. No mal-intent just 'contact introducing play'. We walked her with Cassie at Emma's suggestion as these two live happily beside each other without going through the bars. Mark's instincts lead him straight into Elaine's (reclaimingrebus) mindset ... getting her to relax whilst another dog was close by so she learns about her own space and respects the other dogs. We walked Cassie by and Mark kept Chancer's bottom on the ground ... she responded so well. She is so trainable and really needs an intense programme which really only a foster home or a forever home could bring.

I personally would add in the muzzle as we tried in the winter. Only thing is the dog we walked her with got annoyed by her attention and grabbed the muzzle! Terriers! Lets move forwards with Chancer and focus on her socialisation.

Cassie and Chancer walked back to the kennels next to one another, but we did ensure Cassie was everso slightly out of range

Re: Chancer, 1 year old Staffie X needs home!

An update from one of our volunteer kennel walkers on Chancer:

Took Chancer out this afternoon, she was excellent on the halti, just kept tension on the lead, had a slight issue with Amba at the bottom of the driveway, but otherwise she was great.

At halfway point she was watered and fussed, blimey this girl loves attention

En route back to the kennels, the yard dog in the stables started barking at her from across the road, she froze initially, but a stern 'leave' took her mind off the dog and she continued happily.

Good Girl Chancer!

Oh she is beautiful! She looks so much like Dave's mum only not brindle.
I hope she finds the home she deserves soon!

Re: Chancer, 1 year old Staffie X needs home!

Chancer had a day out away from kennels! Here is Sarah’s update on the day:

“Rob and I were lucky enough to take Chancer for a day out this weekend. We decided that as this was the first time we have taken her out for more than a walk, we would bring her to our house for lots of playing, nosing around and relaxing! She travelled extremely well in the car, giving Rob lots of cuddles on the way home. Once in the house, Chancer was well behaved - she had a nose around and seemed very relaxed almost straight away, even though it's probably been a while since she was in a house!

We spent lots of time playing and getting to know her better. The tuggie was a particular favourite, but we were really delighted to discover that Chancer has a special talent - playing fetch! With a little encouragement (and a couple of treats), Chancer would run and fetch a ball, drop it and even sit at the end while she waited for us to throw the ball again.

My parents popped round to say hello, and she was unfazed. She was very excited to see our cat, but we did keep them apart, as I think she would be too boisterous for our highly strung kitty! That said, we will try to bring them into closer contact (if the cat lets us!) on her next visit.

We went for a lovely long walk around our village. Chancer let us put her halti on with no problems at all (in contrast to the kennels, when the prospect of a walk is sometimes a bit too exciting for her to stay still!), was she was unfazed by passers-by and cars. She does react to cats and dogs, which confirms what we have known for a while, that further socialization is required. Chancer is a real people pleaser, but she clearly wasn't well socialized with other animals as a pup. So we will continue to walk her with Cassie, and on her next day out, will go somewhere a bit busier, to get her more used to other dogs.

We have lots of fab photos of Chancer on her day out, but due to our annoying MacBook am struggling to upload them! So I will email them to Lynne or Sharon and hopefully they will have more luck!

Looking forward to the next day out Chancer.....xxx”
