Kelly - Medium sized Crossbreed (Oldies Club)

Kelly is a gentle 13 year old crossbreed (with some Collie, Lab and JRT in the mixture!) who came into Oldies Club care after the death of her owner. Kelly is in an Oldies Club foster home in Congleton, Cheshire.

Poor Kelly seemed to be in mourning when she first arrived, but given time and space, she settled within a couple of weeks. She hadn’t been walked for a very long time, and she had been overfed, so her foster carer is concentrating on regular walks and a careful diet to trim Kelly down to her ideal weight. She was very wobbly at first but this hasn’t curbed her zest for life!

Kelly is a very calm and sweet lady who is friendly to all dogs and, despite living as an only dog previously, is enjoying having a canine friend in her foster home. She wouldn’t want to live with ill-mannered young dogs though. Kelly is so laid-back that she could probably live with cats, but this hasn’t yet been tested. She is also said to be good with children, but she wouldn’t want to be around very young ones unless they were just visiting. Kelly is fine to be left alone for a few hours, although she is the suspected culprit for chewed mail, so a post cage or outdoor post box might be a good idea!

She is really enjoying her 3 walks per day and is excellent on and off lead. She isn’t the type to run away! Her foster carer has taught Kelly recall as she had never been let off lead before coming into our care. Kelly’s stamina is improving all the time too. And she is excellent in the car - she is quiet and can get in and out by herself.

Kelly’s favourite things are walks and cuddles. She’s a very affectionate lady. She also loves her teddy bears and she brings them with her to greet you. She’d make a lovely companion to a retired person who is active enough to take her for plenty of walks in the park.

Kelly is neutered, vaccinated, wormed and flea-treated. She is a little deaf. Due to being so overweight for so long, she has a low grade heart murmur but this does not need medication at present. She has a tumour on her anus, but this has not got any bigger since coming into our care so the vet isn’t worried about it at the moment. Once she reaches a healthy weight, the tumour needs to be reassessed in order to decide whether it should be removed.

Kelly’s new owners will need to keep up her foster carer’s excellent work on her weight and fitness. Kelly has also been attending training with her foster carer and she is working towards her Bronze Good Citizen Assessment!

can't seem to get pic to load, she's on their website in the meantime Dogs in Oldies Club Care » Oldies Club

Kelly is my foster dog and she is coming on brilliantly, she really is a cracking dog for someone.

We were in the park this afternoon and a squirel ran right past her and she didn't bother at all so looking good for her also being able to live with small furies too

I would think it will be hard to home a dog of that age.

Less of the pessimism please. The charity has homed hundreds of dogs all over 7years old. She is a star and has plenty of life in her yet, especially as the weight comes off her. Our vet is very please with her.
