28 Guinea Pigs Dumped...can you help?
Twenty-eight guinea pigs are currently in the care of the RSPCA Leybourne Animal Centre in West Malling, Kent, after being dumped by a roadside.
The guinea pigs' background
The guinea pigs were found by a motorist who had stopped by the roadside in Iwade, near Sittingbourne, Kent, and found the animals scampering around.
The RSPCA was called and Inspector Teresa Potter helped collect the guinea pigs before taking them to the animal centre, where they are now being cared for until they find new homes.
Inspector Potter said: "These guinea pigs were aged between three weeks and fully-grown adults. It looks as though someone has allowed them to breed and breed, then got too many and so dumped them."
Caring for guinea pigs
Guinea pigs are friendly and easily tamed, but they need commitment and regular attention. They have a basic need to graze and should have regular access to a grassy area. They also need to have their own sleeping area.
Guinea pigs can live up to seven years and are at their happiest when kept in the company of other guinea pigs. However, two adult guinea pigs that don't know each other may fight, so it's essential to choose two littermates of the same sex, a father and son, or mother and daughter.

These guinea pigs are now looking for new homes and are hoping there are people out there who might be willing to give them a second chance at happiness.
