Benji and Oscar - 3 and 5 year old Bichon Frise pair

Benji and Oscar are a pair of Bichon Frises. Benji is 3 years old on the left and Oscar is 5 years old on the right. They are father and son, a bonded pair and will need to go together.

They have come in from an older couple that couldn't cope with having so many dogs so handed these two in as they have had issues with their housetraining. We believe the issue to be scent marking and since being castrated and getting regular walks, they have been completely clean in their foster home.

They are both good with children, cats and dogs. They are incredibly affectionate and love to give you lots of kisses!

Benji is the more timid of the pair and at would bark and run from the adult male in his foster home, however with time, patience and love this has improved and he now enjoys cuddles on his lap! Whoever adopts this gorgeous pair will need to be understanding and patient especially whilst the boys settle into their new home.

They have both been castrated, vaccinated and micro chipped.
If you're interested in adopting Benji and Oscar, please read our adoption guidelines and procedure;

These boys are GORGEOUS! I've never looked after Bichons before but am really pleased to have these 2 with me.

When I picked them up at the end of their long journey they were looking really confused and not wanting to get into yet another strangers car (I was the 4th that day). They behaved wonderfully, though, and settled down after a few minutes. I couldn't fault their behaviour on their walk or during their first evening either. They're very affectionate, especially, Oscar and learn impressively quickly what you want them to do or not do. They walk well on the lead sometimes and sometimes pull a little.

Unfortunately, they seem to be a bit nervous of people (particularly men) and, seemingly, other dogs and show this by barking and growling. If someone ignores their barks and growls and goes to stroke them anyway (staggeringly, I saw 2 people do this on 2 separate occasions. Both came up behind me and just stroked the dogs - unbelievable), they simply stand there and allow themselves to be stroked, even though they clearly are uncomfortable with it. They're much, much better if the person crouchs down (having asked me first) and waits for the dogs to come to them. Benji seems a little more nervous than Oscar but will come round very quickly.

In general they seem to be happy, sturdy little things.

Re: Benji and Oscar - 3 and 5 year old Bichon Frise pair

This lovely pair are somehow still waiting for a home. They are both absolutely wonderful and here's the latest update from their fosterer:
"Still no issues with them and housetraining so I think we can assume that, whatever the problem was, it is no more. They go in the garden, do their business and wait at the door to come in again afterwards. They're so funny - their little faces look up at me and their tails wag waiting for the 'okay' command that tells them they're allowed back in (gotta make sure the towel is down so muddy paws don't make a mess of the carpet). Then they run in overjoyed and do their funny little 'dances'.

They also know they're not to eat the rabbit and are sniffing at her a lot more calmly now.

The only thing I can't seem to get them to agree to, is not sleeping on our bed. They stay on the floor to start with but by the time I wake up - surprise, surprise, there they are. Secretly, neither of us mind because they don't shed fur and they very politely lie somewhere on the bed where there's a space. We don't know they're there!" Can anyone offer our lovely Benji and Oscar a home?

Re: Benji and Oscar - 3 and 5 year old Bichon Frise pair

Here's another update from their foster mum:
"Oscar and Benji (becoming known as Osky losky and Benji boo - and answering to it) are getting used to the people in their lives. They no longer bark at my father, for e.g., when he gets in the car or at my brother when they go into HIS home. Charming house guests!

Yesterday evening, I even managed to have both boys and the rabbit on my lap at the same time. All three were on their respective leads so they could just about touch each other but for a few seconds there was complete peace and relaxation. (The rabbit not only showed no sign of fear but had to be physically prevented from getting too close to the boys - a little to their disappointment I suspect, just in case anyone's concerned about the rabbit's welfare.)

The boys now have full understanding of the command 'wait' and no longer try to jump out of the car before their leads are on but they're still trying to resist understanding the command 'off' when they jump up. We're getting nearer and nearer to doing floor-paws though as Oscar now comes and either stands with waggy tail or sits at my feet when he wants a stroke more times than he did to begin with - and Benji's behaviour in that regard wasn't too bad anyway.

Oscar has to be discouraged from pushing Benji out when there's cuddles and lap time though, as he usually wants me all to himself. I had originally thought he was more affectionate than Benji but it turns out that poor old Benji was just being pushed out and hadn't bothered to insist on his share of cuddles. He laps them up now.

Someone needs to come and adopt them and save them from their silly nicknames - what self respecting dog wants to be called Benji boo or Osky losky sausage dog (as he's also sometimes known)"

Can anyone offer this wonderful pair a forever home?

Re: Benji and Oscar - 3 and 5 year old Bichon Frise pair

Benji and Oscar are getting on really well in their foster home and are getting better with strange men thanks to a tube of squeezy cheese! (Positive reinforcement really does do wonders)

They are a lovely pair who are ever so sweet and very clever (particularly when cheese is at stake!) Can anyone offer these sweet boys a forever home?
