Stray cats and dogs in Thailand need your help.
There are an incredible number of street dogs and cats in Thailand. Most foreigners here call them “soi dogs” (a soi is a street joining the main roads). In the best case they are simply ignored by most people, but far too often they are mistreated and have to suffer terrible pain. You can see on that site Soi Dog Foundation - Why We Do It some example on how much they suffer.
Fortunately, some people do care about all those animals. Those people are volunteers from Soi Dog Foundation. They try to reduce the number of street dogs by sterilizing them and try to reduce their suffering by vaccinating them against rabies and distemper. They are doing such a good job that the province in which they are active became the first rabies free province in Thailand. They also take all neglected and injured cats and dogs, make them healthy and look for new homes for those animals. Here again, they are doing such a great job that the dogs at their shelter are able to be cheerful again. They do many more things to help improving the life of soi dogs and cats.
But now part of the shelter might close if Soi Dog Foundation is not able to finalize the purchase of the land on which it is located by Se[tember 2011.
Soi Dog Foundation relies 100% on donation since the Thai government doesn’t help.
