SHADOW

Shadow is a 4 year old ex-racing greyhound boy who is now looking for his retirement home. Shadow has had a long, successful racing career and is definitely deserving of some rest and relaxation now. He is a big boy at 28.5” to the shoulder who is pure black from head to toe, making him very impressive looking indeed. He is sure to be an absolute stunner once he gets a bit of sheen to his coat.



~ Medical Issues ~
Shadow is a bit unusual in that he has just been diagnosed with epilepsy. He has been seen by a vet and is now on medication to help control his condition. We don’t expect that his epilepsy will stop him in any way from being a wonderful pet. This guy has oodles of potential. Kerry Greyhound Connection will monitor Shadow’s condition and advise on treatment as appropriate.

~ Personality ~
Shadow is a truly lovely boy who, despite being a large lad, is really just a big black teddy bear. He is very mannerly and polite with everyone and everything, its hard to fault him. He will stand by you all day long if you just keep scratching his ears. This big softie is going to make a fantastic family dog for someone. He lives up to his name and likes to follow you everywhere, happily looking on as you do the housework.



~ In the Home ~
Shadow is now living in a foster home where his epilepsy is being monitored. It is also his first time ever in a home environment, and he is soaking up the changes. He has been very accepting of all the strange sights and sounds of the home, and is learning how to properly relax on a duvet! This big cuddly bear is soaking up all the love and TLC that he can get, and just adores the home life.

~ Other Animals ~
Shadow is a gentle dote with everyone and everything. He is currently sharing his foster home with another greyhound, a small dog and a cat and is very accepting of them all. This boy is really a super hound who is ready made to be a perfect family pet. He is just starting to play with his new canine friends, and is starting to take an interest in toys.



~ Out and About ~
Like most greyhounds, Shadow is a total couch potato and does not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area once or twice a week.

~ Greyhounds as Pets ~
In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.

~ Where Am I? ~
Shadow is currently being fostered in Ireland and will be transported via Kerry Greyhounds to the UK or Europe when a suitable permanent or foster home offer comes up. This will be organised and paid for by Kerry Greyhounds, and we ask only for a donation to help cover costs. Please note that adopters will need to travel to our nearest collection point to pick him up, and if you are in the UK and wish to meet before adopting him, he will be fostered in the Norfolk area.

Shadow is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

~~ KERRY GREYHOUND CONNECTION ~~

Kerry Greyhound Connection is a small voluntary organisation that has bases in Co. Kerry, Ireland and Norfolk, England. It operates through a network of volunteers spaced over Ireland, the UK and mainland Europe. We can look after approximately 70 greyhounds at any one time, in Ireland and the UK.

Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and given a full veterinary check before being adopted.
We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in Ireland, the UK, Central Europe and the USA.
