Dog wanted - Any advice?
My parents are on the lookout for a dog. They have had two dogs before who died of old age and as it's been three years since our last dog Bonnie died they've decided that they'd like to get another dog.
My dad would prefer to get a rescue dog rather than getting a breed but so far they have had difficulty. I think the main problem is that they would prefer to have a puppy rather than an older dog mainly because they feel that it would benefit my younger sister as it will give her something to do and someone to look after. Also as they often have young children in their house they would prefer to have a dog who hasn't been mistreated, mainly because it probably wouldn't be fair to the dog anyway. Plus with both me and my sister living close to my parents they want a dog that they can take on long walks to both our houses (we both live less than 30 minute walk away from our parents). They visited a couple of the dog rescue centres in Birmingham but there was no puppies available. The majority of the dogs there were Staffordshire Bull Terriers and my mum is not really keen on having those sort of dogs around the house. She's also against getting anything like Rottweilers, Alsatians, bulldogs and Dobermans (although our last dog was part Alsatian). Anyone got any advice on what they can do? |

Re: Dog wanted - Any advice?
There are many dog rescue centres that have all breeds, shapes and sizes of dogs needing a home. I dont know if I am allowed to mention any on here so I will message you some of the details. Please ask them to get a rescue dog. There are so many looking for homes.

Re: Dog wanted - Any advice?
It's not that unusual for rescues to get litters of pups in or pregnant bitches that they wont rehome until after litters are born so they have the puppies available too. Worth knowing that often in Rescue centres the pups are kept elsewhere so they wont necessarily be out where Joe Public can see them (you have to ask
)With rescue you need to be presistent and build rapport. Talk to them tell them what you want and accept you may have to ring every few days to see what they have in ![]() Good Luck x

Re: Dog wanted - Any advice?
Thanks everyone for the advice and thanks to all who PM'ed me.
I have managed to find a rescue centre in Birmingham that has puppies so have emailed them and am just waiting for a reply from them. I personally want to adopt every dog I see but its just not practical, I live alone and work all day so it just wouldn't be fair. |

Re: Dog wanted - Any advice?
Whereabouts are you, I am in Walsall if you don't have any luck will see if can think of some more rescues in the surrounding area.
Alot of rescues don't always have puppies on the website too so definately worth a ring round to express an interest. Our local rescue here has a staffie x puppy recently in; unfortunately the rescues are choc full of them at the minute the sitation is pretty bad for them - they really do make lovely family pets, especially with children but understand they not for everyone. |
