Kizzy - Older Crossbreed with Hope Rescue

Kizzy is a 9 year old crossbreed and is currently on foster in Quedgeley, Gloucester.

The Kizzy Fact File
Dog status: Kizzy can be fussy about which dogs she spends her time with. She would prefer to be an only dog.
Cat status: Kizzy can not be rehomed with cats
Child status: Kizzy is not in foster care with children and came to us as with no history so we do not know is she has ever lived with any. We could only rehome Kizzy with children aged 10 years plus.
House training: Perfect
Home alone: Happy to be left for a few hours if she has had a walk beforehand.
Basic training: Kizzy walks nicely on a lead. She has very little hearing now so her training has to be tailored to allow for this.

Kizzy's story is one so typical of older dogs in rescue.
She came to us from a pound in the North East who were having to consider putting Kizzy to sleep. Like all rescues and pounds across the UK they were full to the brim. Noone visiting the pound to rehome dogs directly had taken a second look at this old lady. As a council pound they have no way of controlling what dogs will come in or how much kennel space they will need from one week to the next. They were ready to take the ultimate decision for Kizzy before we stepped in.

Kizzy is mainly black with a grey muzzle and eyes....not a good start when potential adopters walk up and down the kennel line. She is well beyond her youth now at around 9 years old....again, people would just walk on by. She is largely deaf, 'just' a heinz 57 crossbreed, has no history etc etc etc.

However, here at Hope Rescue we do things differently. Rehoming from a foster home gives us the luxury of being able to give potential adopters so much more. Kizzy is not just an old, black, deaf crossbreed. She is a loving, loyal and giving dog. Everyone who meets her tells her foster mum what a sweetie she is. Oh, and she like to think she is a greyhound sometimes!

Kizzy is in foster care with other dogs and has found it tough to settle and find her place in the pack. She would prefer to be the only dog in her new home but may be able to live with a calm, relaxed companion. She does however love to run around with the greyhounds she is living with, attempting to catch them as they run at top speed. This little lady does not seem to realise she will never catch them. Or maybe she does and just likes to run.....who knows!?
Kizzy is hard of hearing and cannot always hear a recall command. She does tend to keep an eye on her foster mum out on walks though and never strays far away.

She absolutely adores people and will make a fantastic companion for somebody. She loves to make new friends and is an excellent listener.
Kizzy is in an adult only foster home and came to us with no history. This means we do not know if she is used to the hustle and bustle that living with young children brings. She may be able to be rehomed to a home with children aged 10 years plus if the are used to dogs.

Kizzy does enjoy her walks. She is very well behaved on the lead and enjoys seeing the world and greeting her adoring public! Once she has had a good run she is happy to settle and be left for a few hours for a snooze.

Kizzy's coat was not in a good state when she arrived, it was very dry and full of dandruff. However, now her diet has improved and she has enjoyed a good bath at the groomers she is looking shiney and velvety soft once again. She is very good at the vets and to be handled and bathed. She had serious muscle wastage on her back end when she arrived but with exercise, a decent diet and TLC this is improving and building by the day.
Kizzy is not a good passenger in the car, although this is gradually getting better as she gets used to short journeys. She is also learning to wait when the car door opens rather than jumping straight out to explore the world asap!

All Hope Rescue dogs are neutered, vaccinated, wormed, flea treated and microchipped prior to rehoming. A homecheck will be required, and you will need to come and meet the dog with your own dogs and family. Hope Rescue rehomes throughout the UK. A Pre-Home Interest Form can be downloaded from Home - http://hoperescue.org.uk and should be returned to dogs@hoperescue.org.uk

Re: Kizzy - Older Crossbreed with Hope Rescue

Kizzy is obviously used to the dogs in her foster home and will quite happily trot along after them on a walk, though if she were an only dog she would be centre of attention and enjoy that too

Here are a couple of new pics, just to show you what a sweetheat she really is
