Howie - 8 year old crossbreed

Howie is an 8 year old Crossbreed and is currently on foster in barry, Vale of Glamorgan.

The Howie fact file
Dog status: Good with dogs on walks, has not been in foster with a dog
Cat status: unknown
Child status: Has spent time with calm, dog savvy children of 10+ and been well behaved
House training: Good
Home alone: Not comfortable being alone. Will need help with this once he is settled in a new home.
Basic training: Knows sit, paw, down and fetch and is working on stay. Good on the lead.

Please excuse the sad looking picture above. It is Howie's mug shot from the pound and shows him after he was found in a field where we think he had been for at least 2 days. He was curled up in a ball in the snow, so stiff from the cold he couldn't walk. How this poor boy came to be there we will never know.

Howie has been through a lot of stress and upset in recent weeks and this has left him very insecure in his attachments. He bonds quickly with people and can then become upset if they leave him alone. He will need a home where he will have plenty of company and the time he is left alone can be gradually built up once he has settled in.
He is house trained and has been introduced to a crate.

Howie has been good with dogs he has met out on walks and with other foster carers dogs he has visited. He has not been living with another dog in his foster home however, he may be able to live with a calm, social canine companion. Howie has been in foster with a budgie and has shown a little interest. He has not been tested with cats so would be an unknown quantity in that respect.

Howie is good with people and loves company. He has not been in foster with children, however, he has spent time with a dog savvy 10 year old and was well behaved and calm.

All Hope Rescue dogs are neutered, vaccinated, wormed, flea treated and microchipped prior to rehoming. A homecheck will be required, and you will need to come and meet the dog with your own dogs and family. Hope Rescue rehomes throughout the UK. A Pre-Home Interest Form can be downloaded from Home - http://hoperescue.org.uk and should be returned to dogs@hoperescue.org.uk

Some pictures of Howie from his fosterer that show how this guy has changed from the sad pound picture.

New Howie pics … he is looking good!

Handsome Howie

Some people have a wish list when a dog they go to get
But a list that says ‘A brown one’, well, I haven’t seen that yet.

They want a spitz, a pug, a chow, some other fancy breed
But I’ve yet to hear them shouting out ‘A brown one’s what we need!’

They want a small Chihuahua, labradoodle, huntaway
But ‘We think we’ll take the brown one’ is a phrase they seldom say.

They want an irish wolfhound or a collie or a lab
They never seem to say the words ‘A brown one would be fab’.

They have all their requirements which they have written down
But no tick list includes the line ‘We want one that is brown’.

They want a working spaniel – a springer or a cocker
But I have got some news for them and this is quite a shocker

If you read the fashion mags the message that comes back
Is that people who are in the know say BROWN IS THIS YEAR’S BLACK!
