I have to say i think CHarlie was a duck or a fish in a former life as she loves the water, sings her heart out when we arrive and just never wants to get out. If she could i swear she would live in the water 24/7

The life jacket is hers as in the summer i love to swim her in lakes etc but like you say Staffords are not built to swim especailly for long periods of time so the life jacket lets her swim as much as she likes
