Tree Climbing

Was out for a walk with Dais' last night and i decided to take a different route through the New Forest...mistake. My god that was hard work, by the time i got to the top of the hill i just had to sit down and have a rest BUT it was marsh-land and so the only place to sit was up a tree, it was a big tree and was easy to climb in Wellies. However, once i sat down Dais' was going mad on the floor, she didnt look happy that she could not reach me, she wasn't jumping up and down she was more balancing on her hind legs and desperately clawing at my feet (only things she could reach). Tried the 'sit' thing, she did but not for long. Anyway i figured it was time to chill her out as we'd just been chased by horses so all was not calm. I jumped down gave her some food and filled her bowl with water and once she calmed down i began to climb the tree once more, afterall i dont want her to think that any amount of whining and looking stressed is going to control my behaviour !

My point being is that as i turned round to climb the tree, she, for the first time, bolted infront of me, climbed the tree and sat exactly where i was. Great ! As its beena nightmare to get her interested in anything like sticks, toys, fetch ect. Tree climbing she seems to enjoy though. Once i did the "good girl" *fuss fuss fuss* thing and she knew that yes, tree climbing is allowed, she was down, back up down back up, different trees, tried a bush......that didnt work out so well =)

So finally question.... should i be encouraging this kind of behaviour as she did seem to pay too much attention to how she was jumping down. Shes just turned 1 year so she is young now but will she know her own limitations ? For example, i can climb something i have not climbed before and know by looking down if i must cclimb down or if its ok to jump. Is Daisy likely to have that same kind of logic, or is she just going to think "Im up here, i want to be down there" and jump ?

Re: Tree Climbing

Oh I never had a dog up a tree I would say it would be okay as seemingly she is only ever going to be up a tree when you are there hopefully. I have a Crestie who jumps onto higher pieces of furniture than my other Cresties, so I feel she knows her limitations regarding height etc..

Re: Tree Climbing

Never ? Well this is my first dog and we didnt really train her to she just didnt like being on the floor. Its strange because there are lots of poled fences about where i live, they cant be any higher than 1ft off the ground but she upright refuses to jump them. Tree's however, no probs. I took some pictures but trying to figure out how to get them on here is a differnt story
