Ticks

Hey all - i normally post in the cat section but we do have a dog too..........

We found a tick near his ear and he has had them before and we have successfully removed them - but this is hugeeeeeeeeeeeeee!! It makes me cringe!!!!

Anyone else found a really big one on their dog before?

Re: Ticks

Back in Australia we had a HUGE amount of ticks appear on our dogs! These were paralasis ticks which are white, and they are massive! We had to buy medication that would counter the paralasis! I wouldn't worry too much as long as it isn't a bad one, maybe do some research. I always found it easiest to use tea tree oil to suffocate them as they burrow out. They are much easier to remove then! They really are disgusting little things, just keep an eye out for more on a regular basis. Maybe having a tea tree bath would help deter them?

xxx Joey

Re: Ticks

I'd look up on the net or ask your vet if they are found in your area. Do not panic as you need a few to make trouble. And yes they can travel onto all other warm blooded creatures (i.e cats and humans) If they appear on either, the tea tree solution is best. I really think asking if they are in your area is best as they could be just a white harmless type. The vet would know

Re: Ticks

If you are pulling them out make sure that the head isn't left behind as it can cause infection.
