Blood in stool - Is it a bad idea to mix canned with dry?

Hi all the experts out there,

My almost 7 month Springador started to have runny poo after we tried mixing canned and dry food (because he is so bored with the same dry food after weeks of it). Is it a bad idea to mix the two or is it just a transitional issue?

Otherthan that he shows no sign of abnormalities - except rubbing his butts on the floor and I am guessing it's time for gland expression.

Many thanks again!

Could just be the change, or even the brand/quality of the wet food.

Are the feces themselves well formed or runny?

Could he have worms? My spaniel had bloody stools and bum dragging before we found a worm!

Could be colitis. Have you seen any jelly like substance at all?

Might be worth popping to the vets if its been going for a few days.

that's one thing to keep into consideration:
7 months old...he's maybe at the pinnacle of chewing on everything....
a foreign object...or privet/apple trees/branches and the lot! usually privet and apple trees/branches gives a black and runny stool with signs of colitis...(a gel-like thingy in it), both are poisonous for the dogs....but if it is the occasional chew....then keep an eye on him!. if that is the problem, then in a few hours (6 to 8) stool will be back to normal, however, in every case like this is always best to give the vet a ring...a phone consultation is usually free!

best
D

Re: Blood in stool - Is it a bad idea to mix canned with dry?

I can't sugest anything as to what it could be but I can say that my 2 are successfully fed on dried and wet....obviously reduced dry to make it the same quantity but it's never done this to mine.
I hope the vet can help and your dog gets better

Saw the vet. He got colitis. He is now fine.

Thanks again for the quick reminder.
