Is she just being fussy?

Hi i have a 8 month old English Springer Spaniel. She has always polished her food off as if i never feed her. She is currenlty on Purina Puppy (Chicken and Rice) but for the last month she walks over to it and turns her nose up at it and leaves it. Sometimes she eats it later in the day and other times she doesnt eat it at all.

Now i wondered if it was that she may be coming in to season but this has been now for over a month. She is tottaly happy in herself and is as energetic as ever.

If i put a little bit of chicken or sausage in her food then she wolfs it down so is she just being fussy or is she bored of her food.

Any suggestions would be great and maybe i should introduce a small amount of wet food to keep her interested.

Thanks

Re: Is she just being fussy?

i would pick it up if she dont eat what you give her, when you give her it and let her go hungry.

untill the next feed time
she'll soon learn if i dont eat it now i get hungry.
and start putting other things on it will make her more fussy

Re: Is she just being fussy?

Right hun this sounds exactly like shila. I got round it by doing this.
1- A dog will never starve itself always remember this
2- If the food has not gone with 15-20 mins even half an hour pick it up if she hasn't eaten it tough.
3- If she refuses to eat breakfast DO NOT give her treats during the day until her next meal otherwise she will realise not eating means treats.
I personally refused to changed shila's food as i dont see why i should do it just because she is bored of it otherwise i'll constantly be spending money on food and it may not even work
If she is off her food more than 3 days take her to the vets, I say 3 days as thats how long shila left it until she realised I wasn't giving in.
This may sound harsh BUT she eats ever meal now without a problem, your pup may have hit her teenage stage and is pushing her luck with you.
Good luck x

Re: Is she just being fussy?

How much do you feed her a day and how much does she actually eat a day? Could be that at 8 month she just doesn't need as much food because her growth is slowing down. Unless she's losing weight I wouldn't worry about it.

Re: Is she just being fussy?

I'm currently having the same problems with Cola.

I have fed her on Royal Canin for a long time now but now she just turns her nose up at it.

I give her dry RC in the morning and in the evening I give her dry (not so much) and a couple of pouches of JWB, which she wolfs down. She has even got to the point of "picking out the meat" and leaving the dry!!

Sometimes she eats her breakfast around 2ish but most times now she leaves it and will wait until her dinner time.

Obviously she prefers wet food however it works out so expensive this way and I really want whats best for her and Royal Canin seems to suit and Im happy with it.

I guess all dogs given the chance would prefer to eat meat but I dont want her to be ultra fussy like my cat. My cat will starve rather than eat anything but felix pouches (not my 1st choice) but he turns his nose up at everything else!
