after reading about The Life Cycle of a Flea, i thought (maybe there are) some ...too small for me (to see) so i bought a pack of those squeazable portions of flea killer which i promptly applied.
flea-bath followed by skin-applied pesticide which needs SKIN * OILS to be distributed, and hence should be used only 48-hours or more before or after any bath, and which should not be *combined* with other skin-applied toxins, as they can overstress the liver + poison the dog / pup / cat / kitten / human applying them, or handling the dog later.

toxins are not toys - they can be highly-lethal if they interact with another agent.
all my best,
--- terry

PS - a former client KILLED her cat, and hospitalized her 5-YO son and her dog - by bathing the dog + cat, treating both with skin-drop pesticides, and BOMBING the house - all within a week.
her dog was in the vets care for 10-days, and was very ill indeed.
her son was discharged after 4 days in care; the family spent a WEEK in a rented hotel room, while their apt aired-out; then the parents went in and cleaned it, steam-cleaned the rugs, etc, to remove any lingering aerosol pesticide, before the boy + pets came home.
of course, their entire tank of fish was dead, too.

Re: incessant scratching

Hi y'all!

i bathed her when she first got home with regular dog shampoo.
a few dead fleas came off her fur and i found a couple more (all dead) over the next couple days. when the scratching didn't stop, and since i couldn't see any fleas on her, i wondered, but to be safe (and avoid a flea infestation in my house!), i treated her with Advantix, bought at a chemist under my vet's advice. i've sinced followed the advice of combing her through with a fine toothed comb and one single dead flea (fat one!) fell out. lots of pale yellow stuff that looks like dandruff also came off. i have no idea if that is normal. Peeps really enjoyed being combed though :-)
i threw a couple of blankets in the wash and sprayed her chair and sofa with "Biokill" - a non toxic bug killer. uhm...i haven't sprayed the rugs! will do that today. All in all, she seems better but still has a scratching fit now and again.
thanks everyone for your advice!!
