Nettle sting

Does anyone know why nettles don't appear to sting dogs? Both mine regularly sniff around nettles, but they never appear to get stung. Before anyone asks the obvious, yes they are stinging nettles, not the other sort that don't sting.

Re: Nettle sting

That's a good question, I've never known a dog get stung before, perhaps it is just their coat protecting the skin.

Re: Nettle sting

depends with mine how much they have been running in them.

sometimes they get itchy feet, and on odd occasions tiny bumps appear but soon go down.

Re: Nettle sting

When we went camping for 2 weeks last summer, the place where our tents were pitched had stinging nettles and I am sure that Tootsie got stung on her paws we had to make sure she didnt go round that side of the tent as when we first arrived she walked into them and was going mad with her paws not sure why they dont seem to sting the nose though

Re: Nettle sting

Awww! poor hairless!

My dog rosie HATES walking on nettles so maybe they feel them but some dogs will react and some dogs don't care. Mack doesn't give a toss he runs through them like a bull in a china shop lol! But rosie avoids them like the plauge.
If she does stand on them she doesn't react much though, just looks extremely pathetic.
