Hi my dog is finding it hard to cope with the heat at the moment. He is also black which does not help and has just made it past his 13th birthday.

I've tried to spray him with cool water which does seem to make a difference. Any advice on keeping a dog cool would be gratfully received.

I am having the same problem with my Newfie,I have to keep letting her go in the river to cool off.
She also loves icecubes so I freeze a dish of water and she licks the ice for ages

My two struggle with it aswell, i try and keep the house well ventilated, a hose down if needed, some friends of mine use towels , frozen, they put towels in the freezer, wet ,.and lay them over the dog when hot.
Don't give to many ice cubes as a sudden change i stomach temp can make them ill.

apart from clipping,keeping indoors in heat of day in cool room,ice cubes in water,frozen treats(veggies etc) not sure what else you could do.

I'll try ice cubes and see if helps him. Sounds so nice I want to try some myself.

yes wet is good and a big fan, the main thing they drink in this weather.

and dont go out in the hotest part of the day do early and late walks when its cooler, and feed them while its cool

the last thing you want is a dog with heat stroke.

Kepping there feet cool helps, aparently I was told that the dog will loose body temp through panting and feet. I usually use empty pop bottles and freeze them then give those to them to play with.

Thats why I freeze her big dish of water,she has to lick it so its just like drinking small amounts of cold water where as if I gave a newfie small icecubes she would swallow them whole

It's definitely a good idea to keep dipping their feet in cool water for short amounts of time. It will cool them down pretty quickly.
