Not Addisons - presumed Inflammatory Bowel Disease - any advice
Well vet says blood says not Addisons - so my border terrier it seems has IBD - he is very low in B12 and folates - indicating intestional issues. He is at last eating Orien adult morning and night - as would not touch tinned or other dry stuff - thanks for tips re Orijen.
BUT, hoping that once vet prescribes steroids it will help the IBD and stop the regular vomiting he does at night/early morning. Any tips or other sufferers? thanks |

Hi
With Muddy was it the steroids that caused this? What is the drug you suggested? Is that not a steroid? What do you feed him? Also, sorry for so many questions - was he sick with IBD or did he just have diarrhoea; ours only seems to have sickness. |

Re: Not Addisons - presumed Inflammatory Bowel Disease - any advice
Muddy was diagnosed with IBD, he was very ill and was put onto steroids, it was a mixture of the two which made him look like that.
BUT the steroids were at such a high level, because at the time our vet thought that this was the best treatment, that he lost a lot of his pads. That is why he had the bandages. The vet later found that Sulfasalazine, could be a treatment, and it worked ![]() We feed him tinned Chappie with JWB ocean white fish as treats. We do not allow him anything else, it could kill him!!!! I must say, that 3 years on, his tum does seem to be able to tolerate the odd bit of scavenging on his part ![]() 3-4 years ago it would certainly have made him very ill |

Re: Not Addisons - presumed Inflammatory Bowel Disease - any advice
Thanks for your information; i shall remember the salfasalazine(!) - he is eating egOrijen (which everone seems to rave about as it has no grain or cereal but 70% high protein and 30% veg - so am sure that this should suit him.
Vet will prob want to do expensive prescription diet but did read that these will contain cereals so have read elsewhere that not good. |

Re: Not Addisons - presumed Inflammatory Bowel Disease - any advice
Chappie contains a lot of cereal, but it suits Muddy. It can sometimes be the protein source that is the problem, Chappie is fish based.
Your dog may react to different substances. Found this http://www.fecava.org/files/ejcap/335.pdf |

Just had another thought, when Muddy had attacks he was also given Pro Kolin paste
