To BARF or not to BARF?

I have been giving my dogs IAMS dry kibble but I am beginning to feel guilty because they eat the same thing day after day. I had my older dog on a BARF diet for a few months and he loved it of course but I got away from it because at the time I was traveling quite a bit and couldnt find the time to make his food.
I would like to add some variety to their diet and was considering going back to the BARF diet or some variation thereof and maybe mixing it with their regular food but I am not sure about it. Mainly because I dont want to make a sudden change in their diet especially for my older dog (13 years) and cause intestinal problems of any kind.
Does anyone have any recommendations for switching to this type of diet and if it would, or would not be a good idea for an older dog?

Re: To BARF or not to BARF?

hi i would suggest that if you do go back to barf dont mix with commercial foods as the balance wouldnt be good it should be one or other and as fo a older dog on it then all i can say is my eldest is 10 he loves it and a friend of mine a vets nurse she has her 14 year old shepperd on it so you should be ok, unless he has no teeth lol, but even then he can still eat raw

Re: To BARF or not to BARF?

If your going to feed raw just do it any runs will soon disapear , its one of the ony ways of feeding that i would say shouldnt do any harm to just do a straight swap over , as with dry foods the addatives in them and different ingredients may cause upset or allergy , feeding raw has nothing that a dog isnt designed to eat so go ahead , a great place to buy the food is called Landywoods find it from google they deliver and are very competetive , minced chicken with bone is 26p for a 1lb bag , there is a minimum order but as long as you have a spare chest freezer or like we did bought a second hand one its no problem , i have been able to feed both my labs for about £6 per week with extras like veg , eggs ,and fruit .
