Hi Englishrose With my last litter I sort of fed them half and half. Used to give them raw mince, tripe, chicken wings etc.. and then 2 meals of dry food. I did find that the pups struggled with the chicken wings though

They are okay to give, my dogs which are toy breed got the wings at 5 weeks and they were crunching the bones. Bones are okay raw as long as not cooked. People who feed totally BARF swear by it, I do not know all the ins and outs about it really to totally feed it. There is a lot of info on net etc.. about Totally BARF diets. Be prepared its a lot of reading

Re: What puppy food?????

I feed raw (not BARF) but I wouldn't suggest feeding it exclusively unless you really know what you're doing. You need to understand the nutritional requirements of dogs and puppies before just 'diving in', especially when rearing a litter.

If you want to feed a 'wet' food, Natures Menu complete is one of the better ones. Or maybe try a good quality complete with some meat added.

The problem with rearing pups exclusively on raw or BARF is that new owners will thenhave to continue and might not want to, or might not have the knowledge to do it properly. For this reason, despite feeding raw to my dogs, I rear my pups on complete.

Re: What puppy food?????

I have always feed my litters on Pedigree chum puppy food complete and they have thrived on it, but think its time for a change, raw chicken bones and Baft. What are peoples opinion on James well beloved heard alot of people saying this is also good.

Re: What puppy food?????

the barf is a exellant diet to give and i have known litters weaned on it so my vote is go for it, but do your resaerch as they do need a variety. my little ones love the barf to as with fran they are cresties (toy breed) and they have no probs with the bone and lulu only has about 12 teeth ans still gets through whatever i give

Re: What puppy food?????

Maya is nearly 8 months now, and shes on James wellbeloved junior which does smell really meaty, she did have Iams puppy when we 1st got her at 5 months and she enjoys that aswell but a few people said it wasnt that great so I changed her to JB. I haven't tried the barf but everyone rates it so highly I'm wondering whether I should look at it.

But even with just the dry food shes a soft as a feather lol and certainly has no lack of energy!
