Re: I think my dog is ill
im glad he is ok. i always try to sit out any upsets with my dog. i like to think that i dont go running to the doctor every 5 mins when there is something wrong with me. also i find (after working in a vets for over a year) that vets seem to offer drugs to treat the symptoms not help to solve the main cause (my dog limped for 6 months when i got him and the vet just gave us painkillers to mask the problem rather than finding the root cause, he has no fractures his muscles and ligaments were fine, eventually it turned out that poor diet and starvation as a puppy delayed his blood vessels from developing properly) i went backwards and forwards and eventually tried three different vets to get a diagnosis finally. excercise was the cure- previous vets gave apainkillers and told me to keep him quiet- so it was doing more harm than good. but i could have kept giving him the painkillers, even now and thought - wow this is working.
i know him inside out and upside down and would urgently take him if he was desperately ill. im sure i would have claimed a million times more on my insurance if we'd dashed off to the vet at every scrape, runny poo or quiet day. ive also carried my dog home (he's a very large boxer of 26KG) and also carried him from the park to the vets when he was biten by a border collie, there was blood everywhere turns out it was his ear but it could have been from anywhere! hope he is ok. good luck, enjoy him. you sound like a great responsible dog owner. |

Re: I think my dog is ill
Relieved to hear your dog has recovered, I would always say in a situation like this to seek the advice of the vet sooner rather then later.
Had this have been bloat the dog could have died the most agonizing death in less then a hour. Not trying to sound callous but in view of the financial circumstances so it may be a good idea to think about pet insurance - the cost whilst the dog is young will not be too high - and even taking out basic cover is better then having nothing to fall back on. regards Sue
