Our vet is pretty good, we went through enough to find one so hopefully he'll be open to it, saying that he was very negative towards raw feeding. If they won't do it or charge stupid amounts I'll go somewhere else, still got a few local vets we haven't been through yet!

I'll have the pups titred before they have their first booster too then, suppose there's no harm in it. Thanks for the advice.

They shouldn't refuse point blank to do it, but they will probably try and heavily dsicourage you. You just need to make sure that they understand that you have a good idea of what you are talking about, and will vaccinate if needed. I had the hardest time explaining to my vet why I wouldn't be titre testing or vaccinating for lepto.

In case your vet doesn't know (most dont!) the blood needs to be sent to Glasgow Uni. If you google you can find a price list. It is the combined test for parvo, distemper and adeno virus you want, it costs £18. My vet added £40 on top of that, but some charge less. Glasgow don't titre for lepto, so blood for that would have to go elsewhere.

Good luck, let us know how you get on, it's interesting to know.

Re: Homeopathic Vaccine

Will do, why don't you test for leptospirosis? What about parainfluenza?

I'm not sure if there is a tire available for parainfluenza, but I don't titre or vaccinate against it as it is highly unlikely to be a life threatening disease, like kennel cough.

I don't titre for lepto simply because I will not vaccinate my dogs against lepto regardless, so titre testing seems pointless. I won't vaccinate against Lepto because immunity from the vaccine is highly unlikely to even last a year in most dogs anyway (often only 3 months), despite lepto being prevalent in the environment it is actually quite hard for dogs to actually contract, vaccines only protect against two strains of lepto, but there are at leats 10 strains which dogs have been known to contract, studies on feral dogs have shown lepto isn't as life threatening as some vets would have us believe (that isn't to say it can't be horrific and lif threatening though!). Also, Lepto is the vaccine most related to adverse reactions.

LOL.

I would maybe do it a month before. It takes 2-3 weeks to come back.

What age were they when they had their puppy vaccs? [nosey icon needed]

Jayjay was 8 weeks and Trinny 14 weeks for their first ones. No idea about Milo as he was a rescue.

So were second at 10 and 16 weeks?

If they were before 12, there's more chance they'll need their booster unless they have come into contact with the viruses (is viruses the plural of virus? ) during walks etc. The pup we got back was done at 8 and 10 weeks, so I'll be interested to see if she's immune.

Let me know when you get them tested, I'll be interested to know the results, although I am guessing it'll be a while? Too much time on my hands.....

Re: Homeopathic Vaccine

Yeah second vac's were at 10 and 16 weeks.

Will do, they are only 17 and 21 weeks atm, so you've got a fair while to wait yet.
