Green soft poo...help pls

Thought i had this ongoing problem sussed but now looks like i havent. My male springer spaniel is 1 1/2. Since weve had him we have tried a few foods to see which agrees with him as every couple of months he will go a couple of days with soft stools which start firm but finish soft or have mucas. I switched to Burns being hpoallergenic as i was advised it could be dietry/ colitis. Now a week on he has been good with the firmest hes ever been but today he went and it was soft and green, as usual he is his normal happy self running around but why does this keep happening? Any advice really wold be appreciated.

If it is Colitis which it sounds like - try a probiotic

Okay, so first off, how have you introduced burns to your pet? have you literally given him the other food one day, and burns the other? or has it been a gradual process. Also, what food was your springer on previously?

Continuously changing your dog's food will mess with their digestive system, so you just need to give them chance to adjust, they're just like us, we have bad days and good ones, albeit not green ones

The best thing to do, is to hang in there, and see how your springer goes, a week isnt really long enough to be conclusive.

Have you seen your vet about this problem?

Re: Green soft poo...help pls

He was previously on dry chappie as its a bland diet and i thought that would be ok, every time he gets an episode we would put him on chicken and rice for a few days and intoduce food again over several days. He was on chicken and rice this time for 3 days and then i introduced burns over a week, he has been on this fully now for a further week and this is the first time weve had a soft one. I havent seen a vet as it always seemed to clear up after a couple of days on chicken and rice and after reading alot on the net thought it sounded like colitis, hes quite an exciteable and nervy dog so it fitted.

We do take him on the field behind us where there are fox holes, dont see him eat it but you never know...would this cause it to go green?

Re: Green soft poo...help pls

It did a few times with Daisy although the worsed was when she ate horse poo it came out looking exactly like we had had a pony in the garden no change from going in lol. You could do with trying to eliminate what is causing this random cause of poo problem .Do you give any thing such as pigs ears or raw hide ?? or is anyone at home guilty of giving food stuffs that he isnt really meany to have ??

Re: Green soft poo...help pls

We have all been really good since getting him onto Burns, he only has hypoallergenic treats and has no rawhides at all, i dont know if this is an isolated incident or ongoing from previous problem, he always seems so happy and shows no signs of being unwell which makes it harder to solve.

What about the treats makes them hypoallergenic ?? it could be a wheat allergy does burns have wheat in it or maize , or do the treats ?

Re: Green soft poo...help pls

As I'm sure was said on your last thread foods are only really hypoallergenic if your dog isn't allergic to what's in it. If you suspect Colitis I would give him probiotics and think about putting him on a biologically appropriate, high meat content diet, BARF, home cooked or Orijen and see how he does with them.
