Re: are any vets here? advice needed please

i have not updated because I have found some of the replies bordering on offensive. which they are. I was asking for advice on this forum..not abuse
someone has actually suggested that I dont care for my dog and could be prosecuted.

Under the animal welfare act you have a duty of care for your dog... this means if your dog needs vetiranery treatment you have to provide it.

You are worrying your dog has a melanoma, not getting this seen to could be construed as not providing a duty of care!!! Melanoma if diagnosed is a very serious condition, and no-one on a forum or asking a question on an other website will be able to give you a conclusive diagnosis, you need someone to "look" at yur dog.

Agonising over the level of respect a vet gives you in a situation like this is frankly inappropriate. Your dog needs a diagnosis, and whether a vet is "out to make money" or works for a national charity is completely irrelivant. Working in private practice and making a profit, does not equate to a lack or respect or lack of care for animals that come under their roof...

pathetic.
I am NOT a chav lowlife just because I cant work and visit the PDSA and happen to own staffies.,

Thing is, we would all like free vets but it aint gonna happen!

I have raised over ten thousand pounds for dog rescue charities in my own time in the past three years, despite being plagued by bad health, how many of you supposed dog lovers can say that?
you were talking as if I was delaying getting my dog treated, when I only posted the message on friday night and had to WAIT for a vet appointment. and yet on tuesday I saw a message saying 'why havent I gotten anything done yet'
to be so rudely judged by people who do not know me is an insult
For your information my dog was seen by a vet yesterday which i paid for ut of my own money and will be going to an eye specialist, which my insurance company will pay for apart from the excess when I can find someone willing to help me get there as my chronic arthritis means I cannot always drive long distances of 50 odd miles or even hold a pen long enough to fill in claim forms, hence my needing help, as one of you insensitive souls had the cheek to tell me to fill in my own forms.

quote
As regards your dog insurance, you can actually complete the claim form yourself with the help of the insurance company and then give the completed form to your vet for them to authorise. I don't understand why a vet would refuse to help you claim from your insurance unless perhaps the amount was not high enough to warrant you claiming due to the excess on the policy.

I was wrong to think that I might find help here

Your previous posts suggested you were not going to have your dog seen to as you didnt like the attitude of private vets. no one on here would have wanted your dog to be left untreated by a vet and were advising you against this.

Re: are any vets here? advice needed please

I'm sorry, but if you calm down and read through all of your posts you may find why some people reacted how they did.
You being an animal lover must realise how passionate people can be about animal welfare, as you are yourself
We did not and cannot know the background of every story and your posts were not clear as to your intentions or even your attitude to your dog.
We have so many people come here for advice that quite obviously care little for the welfare of their animal unfortunately

I am NOT a chav lowlife just because I cant work and visit the PDSA and happen to own staffies.,

I have just re read this thread and see no-where anyone has indicated you are, or in any way personally insulted you, just raised grave concernes for your dog.. the problem you raised yourself...

As for having staffies.... what does that have to do with any dog lovers concern for your dogs welfare!!! DO you genuinely think it influences anyone on here's attitude to you or your dog? Believe me a dog forum is not where you are going to find anti staff attitudes.

In relation to your dog I'd like to point out everyone did their best to give you their honest opinions as regards the health of your dog. I for one personally take offence to your comments above, perhaps you should re-read my posting!

Yes, it was me "that had the cheek" but I can assure you I was not being cheeky I was actually trying to help you make a claim as you stated in your previous post that your vet would not help you make the claim under your insurance. My comment was intended to help you not offend you and you took it totally out of context. Your post read as if you were angry at the vet for not being prepared to make the claim and I was suggesting an alternative for you.

Perhaps if you look at your first posting you will see why there was a lot of people that had concerns for your dog. You definitely did not make it clear you intended taking your dog in a couple of days.

[QUOTE] I cannot take him directly to the vets as its 30 miles away and I am currently unwell so cannot drive him there for a few weeks, and have no one else who can take me[QUOTE]

Just wondering how you manage to walk the dog while you're unwell? Do you have a dog walker, perhaps he/she could have helped out?

Re: are any vets here? advice needed please

my husband walks the dogs actually. but he cannot drive a car.
my health does NOT always limit my walking ability
however as anyone with chronic joint problems would tell you, sometimes any movements are impossible.
its also quite nasty to suggest that I would not see that my dogs get excercise or pay money to a walker to do a job that I would be too lazy to do myself!
I would never dream of paying a dog walker ten pounds an hour when that money could pay two nights kennel fees for a homeless staffy at risk of being pts.
I have a large garden and three dogs that play together and wear eachother out.
they also go around the park with my husband, which is more than many dogs get
my dog incidentally has harmless cysts, having been taken first to a private vets, and then a specialist in hampstead which I drove to whilst hardly able and nearly killed both myself, my dog and my two carers who had to accompany me! so I might as well have gone too the pdsa anyway, as its was nearer than hampstead and less difficult to get to.

I don't think I was being at all nasty when I asked if a dog walker could help out.

I thought I was being helpful by offering you a solution to your problem.

I won't bother next time, balls to you

Re: are any vets here? advice needed please

I think the members that posted are more concerned about your dogs welfare than to be accused of being nasty to yourself, I think you have been very defensive when there has not been a need for it, we all have problems, myself included, who incidentally has severe arthritis and disc out on my back, so I know how difficult mobility can be, BUT I for one would not let my predudice againts the vets because they didnt remember my name be the reason not to take my dogs to the vet when there was a chance of something serious being wrong. you had a vet in your words at the end of the road? if you had taken your "pride" and put it in your pocket and taken your dog there non of the members would have been left under the impression that you had no intention of taking your dog to a vet as it appeared in your post. I am glad to hear that the ailment is nothing serious.
