Angry dog shaking his head , ear infection ? HELP PLEASE !

So I have been on holiday for a month , we left Jasper with my auntie and we came back last last night and Jasper was covered in grass seeds and thngs so that REALLY annoyed me and he was shakng his head ( I guessed it was the bits stuck behnde his ears ) so anyway in the morning I clipped all the mats and things out and he was fine then today he was fine too but about 3 hours ago he has started shaking his head and tiliting it I have done some research and i think its a ear infection not mites , i have found a site which tells you how to treat it yourself ( as my dad dosent like the vets here in turkey they overcharge ALOT but my dad loves jasper he loves all our pets we ever had and he would NEVER let them suffer ) with 1 part white vinegar 1 part water and everything so could we try to treat it ourself wth the help of the site and if he dosent get any better within 2 days we well take him to the vet is that a good idea ? or should we just take him ( for a blood test he had to have before they charged us 180 english pounds and in england he had one like before we moved to turkey and it only cost 30 pounds .. ) please help I feel so sorry for him and I am NEVER going on holiday again seriously I mean I have even cried I know its stupid but i hate seeing him ill , im never leaving him again ever ..

x

Hi May be a grass seed or other foreign object in ear. Vinegar is good to clean out ears I use it but vet would be able to examine ear better. Would not cost too much maybe just for a vet to have a look. Turkey Wow lucky you Fran

I agree it probably is a grass seed , you can irrigate the ear with saline, it will help wash it out unless it is stuck, in which case it will need tweezers and an aurascope so it may need a vet
All the best Shel

I would take mine to the vet - the antibiotic ear drops are fanastic and will kill any infection right down in the ear canal. Or like previously stated some tweezers etc may be needed to remove a seed or something - would not try this yourself as you could perforate an ear drum

Re: dog shaking his head , ear infection ? HELP PLEASE !

thanks everyone , we have just been out we have bought :

cotton wool
cotton buds ( I know not to push it into the ear )
white vinegar ( took forever !! )
a seringe ( cant spell )
blunt nose scissors
vitamin c tablets ( the taste like orange you know the ones you put in water and they fizz ? )
and some bones to keep him happy

I will try the vinegar solution for a couple of days if it dosent get any better then I will definetly take him to the vets , so im not going to pet him on the head near the ears should I excersise him like I normally do ? or should he just sit in the living room on his bed with his toys all day untill he gets better ? and we are definetly NOT letting our/my 14 month old cousin near him ( he pulls his ears and tail occasionaly .. but he does love him you go efe ( hs name ) wheres jasper ? ( in turkish ) and he points and giggles and runs up to him and hugs him but yup no where near him )

we just removed ALL matts near his ear he was an angle well i did distract him with cheese hehe but still and we cleaned his ears and pulled a few but not to many hairs out ( in his ear ) , and we put the vitam c tablet in some water and it fizzed and then i got the sringe ( cant spell ) and put some in his mouth in the end i poured the rest of it in his bowl and he drinked it heh and dad put the white vinegar and water solution in his ear ( im glad i taught him liedown and to do a half roll ! ) he kinda flipped which is normal i mean i HATE ear drops but yup he shaked his head a few times and then i just sad OOOHH JASPER CHEEEEESE and he stopped and eat some cheese he did real well I hope its just an infection and will go away soon x im scared to take him to the vet and like they have to remove a grass seed with tweezers and like if the vet sneezes he might burst jasper ear drum and jasper mght be deaf and oo i worry to much .. but i really do hope whatever the problem is its simple and goes away soon i feel sorry for my baby x

but anyway at the moment e s happily munching on a bone x

but if anyone can tell me if he should just be on bed rest or should i excersise him or what that would be SOOO helpful

many thanks from me and of course jasper x seriously thankyou all x !!

( p.s sorry about my punctuation its not the best im kindof typing fast and things and im not good at it in general , anyway sorry ! x )

You seem to be doing the right things with him. I would watch the Vit C though as if he gets a good balnced diet, the Vit C is only treated as excess by the body and can lead to gastrointestinal problems Fran
ps Forgot Yes I would exercise him as normal as long as his balance is not affected by his ear problem
