Re: Im looking at some foods

I know a member quoted zooplus (german company) prices at mutley and mog (uk company) and they matched the offer getting two bags of the same variety delivered for 89 pounds but I use mumsandpets as i get a senior and an adult pack, 46pounds each delivered...the 12.5kg bag last just as long (if not longer) as uaual 15kg kibble bags just to say

Edit: just as a comparison
Skinners feeding guide for an adult dog weighing 21kg is 260g per day
JWB feeding guide for Adult dog weighing 20kg is 300g per day
Orijen feeding guide for Adult dog weighing 20kg is 200g per day for regular activity
So on a daily base you saving 100g = 700g per week or about 3 Orijen meals give or take. Per month that is 12 meals per 2 months thats 24 meals. So you can see where the savings are made, even if you do slightly over feed on orijen you would still end up saving across the months as a general. For the slighly extra few pounds every 3 months its well worth it I think

Re: Im looking at some foods

Hi James - thanks for replying concerning Orijen. I was just curious as to why you were thinking of changing from it, as I'd put my spaniel on it after reading lots of your recommendations. Think I'm going to stick with Orijen. I did request samples of Barking Heads when I was researching, but none arrived. Incidentally, do you add any warm water to your Orijen. Henry seems to prefer it with the warm water added and it doesn't seem to swell up like some of the other kibbles.

I ordered my Orijen from K9 capers. Free delivery over £29 and 10% off your first order. Just another supplier for you, in case yours is out of stock anytime. Think they do Barking Heads as well.

Fish 4 dogs is a good kibble. The only reservation I had was the inclusion of Beet Fibre (I'm being picky, I know!), which can aggravate ear infections in dogs. As I have a spaniel (and he has had an ear infection before) I prefer to avoid beet if possible. Still looks a very good food though.

No i was really just looking around, probably have too much time on my hands . Just to say Thornit ear powder is excellent for ear problems. I know a girl who had big troubles with her spaniel going back and forth to the vets with red and smelly ears, getting meds everytime though doing nothing for it. She used this for a few weeks and its cleared completely giving pink ones that dont itch anymore - I have never used it but its one of those pantry essentials by all counts. Open a thread in general chat on it, a lot of people will recommend it its about 8 pounds or so I think...

I wouldnt have minded a mail either from Barking Heads have to say lol will probably leave it

Re: Im looking at some foods

Hi

Just thought I would add my bit too. I recently put chester on this food and he is thriving on it. He is on the fusspot version. They were at discover dogs at the weekend selling the 2kg bag for 2.99 they are usually 6.99 so i stocked up.

Chesters coat is beautiful and he absolutley loves the food.

Thanks again, James. Funny you should mention Thornits. I ordered some last week and have just put a pinch in Henry's ears yesterday. I've read loads of good reports on it, especially for spaniels. I must say it smells really clean. Good to have found a "spaniel person". Hopefully you'll get your Barking Heads samples, but I think I'm gonna stick with the Orijen as I keep reading on the net that this is hard to beat.

Thanks. I might think about it when both my dogs are on adult food (currently have one on arden grange puppy and am swapping the other over to skinners duck and rice). It does make sense, obviously feed less, buy less but I'm not sure I could afford the initial layout of almost £50. I can't believe what a minefield dog food is lol. I want to feed them good food, but obviously am having to go with 'the best the budget will allow'.

Re: Im looking at some foods

Hi Lyceum - My friend feeds Skinners Duck & Rice to her two cockers and she is really pleased with it. At the end of the day, it's about feeding the best you can afford and I think Skinners is really good value for a food that has very similar ingredients to Burns. I feed Orijen just for breakfast and Naturediet for dinner, so that keeps my costs down a bit.
