Terrified its brain damage

I have a 5 month old Cavalier, she is our world and we love her sooooo much.

About two months ago when out on a walk she for no reason at all started going round and round in a circle making herself dizzy, i had to lay her on the floor for 5 mins to stop her from doing it, then we carried on our walk as normal. This has only happened three times since then, but today (now 5 months) she started doing it again when she was playing in the garden with the other dogs, i had to call her in as she kept falling over because she was making herself dizzy and i was worried she would hurt herself.

She is not chasing her tail, and i am just very worried that this might be the start of something sinister.

Im i right to be concerned?

Re: Terrified its brain damage

It could be Syringomyelia.

Were her dam and sire MRI scanned?

Id get her seen as an emergency.

Re: Terrified its brain damage

Nonnie you beat me to it Id push for an emergency visit.

It always amazes me with us having such a good vet, that any vet surgery hearing her symptoms would put her off till Friday, ours would put things on hold to see one of our dogs.

Good luck

Re: Terrified its brain damage

Everything else but, as they were not old enough, (live and learn i suppose) i have been looking into syringomyelia for a while now and she doesn't seem to have the simptoms, but thats not to say i rule it out as every dog is different. I hope to god it isnt.

Im waiting for my vet to get back to me with a cancelation, he says its not an emergency because she is showing no other symptoms . and she is happy in herself.

I did however come accross this on youtube and found it very interesting, aswell as highlighting syringomyelia it also goes to show that even show dogs are not always healthy.

mollythecollie is on a distinguished road
Re: Terrified its brain damage

Your right, it doesnt sound much like syringomyelia, but it cant be totally ruled out.
Serious forebrain disease does cause circling, but it would be almost constant circling, not only occasionally. And also it would cause a change in her demeanour.
If she does it again before monday, try and video it, even on a camera phone and take it to vets , it will really help them in trying to diagnose it.
Hope its nothing serious.

Re: Terrified its brain damage

Hi, thanks for that mollythecollie, thats why i haven't been worried about it too much as its only happend a few times weeks apart and as soon as i stop her she doesnt do it again, but she did do it yesterday and a few alarm bells went off.
She is very healthy in every other aspect, lively, glossy coat, eating, drinking, solid poos, very loving, bright easy to train, there is nothing else that worries me.

Thats a really good idea about recording her, although it will probably be a while before she does it again, but it does worry me that the vets wont take me seriously (not the best vets in the world) so if they don't i will be able to go back with something for them to see.

Many thanks
