Hair loss above one eye?

Hi all, My Mum has asked me to ask you all for help as her rotti Zarah who is 7 has suddenly begun to lose the hair above her left eye.
At first, about a week ago, it was a thin line which looked like an eye brow but it's getting slightly bigger now. Zarah is also being quite timid and not wanting to jump up like she normally would but then she's always had phases of doing that anyway.
Of course, I know vets is best but she can't take her till she gets her pension on Monday! So any ideas on cause or care until then?
Much appreciated
Em xx

Re: Hair loss above one eye?

Sounds similar to what our rottie zara went / is going through. She will be 4 on saturday (14-11-09) and she looks like a 9yr old dog !!!!

It started with sticky eyes in the mornings, we gave them a wipe. Then we noticed this small light brown patch around her eye. Went to the vets, got the usual eye drops etc etc. They thought it could be entopian !

This has went on for months now, and she has started to go white on here head, and around her eye. The vet said that it is vitilago !!!

She lost the pigment on her nose, and lips. They were patchy black and pink !!!!

She was given a months course of steroids, and the colour has came back.

She still has the odd patch around her eye..but as long as there isn't any major health issuses we're not to worried.

They did think it was a raer dissorder, that affectted the imune system, but that problem is mostly in akitas, border collies and some dobermans. Her test came back negative on that !!!

Hopefully you get to the bottom of it soon.

Re: Hair loss above one eye?

Did I read that right and yours as the same name! How strange!
Well I've searched about a bit and concluded it could be either an allergy or something to do with the immune system. Most often people have said it was an allergy so here's hoping. I've told mum dog food/treats only as she does have a tendancy to spoil her. And to check where she sleeps and the garden for anything different which could be bothering her.
Thank you for replying
