Sick Staffie

Hi
I've been searching the net for clues as to what may be wrong with my Staffie, Fergus, he's 9.5 years old. He has never even had so much as fleas and worms and yet we have taken him to the vets twice in the last 4 days!Firstly towards the end of last week he started throwing up a very dark brown liquid(no lumps in it) We took him to the vets on Sat morn and basically they could not give a reason why, they said it was not dried blood he was bringing up because it did not smell, he's not dehydrated, no temp and his poo is normal. They gave him a jab to stop him being sick and some tablets to protect him stomach lining. We've been feeding him rice & scrambled egg gradually giving him some Chappie and he stopped being sick and appeared to be better. Then Monday morning we left him for 3 hours and when we came back he had started drooling from one side of his mouth, his eye on the same side does not blink and appears to be larger than the other and his ear is floppy. We have taken him back to the vets today(Tue) and they think it is a trapped nerve, they have not prescribed anything and he does not appear to be in any pain, the vet said it may go as quickly as it came or could last months. Has anyone ever heard of or ever come across this? Hope someone can help, Sarahsocks & Fergus

Hello and Welcome

Sorry to hear about your boy

I really don't want to alarm you, but I would personally take him somewhere else for a second opinion it sounds to me like he could have possibly suffered from a stroke (if he has suffered a stroke and I am only saying IF) he can be treated to prevent further strokes occuring in the future, thats why I am saying take him somewhere else for a second opinion just really to find out what it actually is and to put your mind at rest.

Let us know how he gets on

Re: Sick Staffie

Hi there, i personally think it sounds like a stroke too. I would get a second opinion too, as these vets can be wrong sometimes. Good luck and keep us posted.

Re: Sick Staffie

Hi
Thank you for your comments, I'm glad I came across this website. I am going to take him for a second opinion, there is no change in his condition today. Not sure if I had posted in the correct part of the forum, should I post the same thread elsewhere?

Thanks

Re: Sick Staffie

Oh Poor Dog, I do not know much about Staffs. Have been working with Human Stroke patients for years and sounds as if it definately neurological. Have you tried testing his limb to see if there is any loss of sensation or weakness? Fran
