Rabies vaccine HELP

We used to take my previous boy Nelly with us to Greece every summer. We had to get him a pet passport, which requires a rabies vaccine (which is not a vaccine dogs here are otherwise given).

We are possibly taking Bella to Greece over Christmas so I took her to the vet to get her passport (as rabies vaccine needs to be done a minimum of a month before travelling to Greece).

BUT instead of the usual Rabisin R, the vet gave her Vanguard R which was fine by me. But then, the secretary who was making her passport told me to bring her back in 2 weeks for the next rabies?!?!? I have NEVER heard of rabies being more than once a year. I will of course enquire about this in 2 weeks when she goes for her booster, but if anyone has heard of the Vanguard R vaccine, and anything in relation to it being given 2X I would really appreciate it.

I know rabies vaccines rate high on bad side effects and I hate that she has to get it at all, but 2x I have NEVER heard of!

Re: Rabies vaccine HELP

I would double check with the vet not the secratary as she may have just got confused.
I also am not aware of any rabies vaccine been administered more that once.
The normal protocol is id chip, vaccinate, blood test 21 days later (if pet coming back to uk) and issue passport (uk issue passport if acceptable titre level reached, if not repeat vaccine and re blood test).
Boosters are normally between 2 and 3 years depending on type of vaccine used.

Yes but this is only for the UK.

The blood test is not necesary for Greece.

I was also wondering, she has been sick 3x today and not wanted to eat, is this possibly a side effect of the vaccine?

I will go back ot the vet if she is not better by Monday. If she is fine, then I will definintely, like you suggested, double check with the vet before she gets the second rabies.

Thanks
