Which insurance to avoid?

I took Woody for his first vacs this week and was a little disapointed because I asked him which insurance company I should go for. He said he is not allowed to say because he is not a registered broker.

I just want to know which ones to avoid? Maybe because they are slow at processing claims etc?

Re: Which insurance to avoid?

Go with one's that do Life Time cover for illness. Some of them have a limit but alot do do the life time cover as long as you keep up the monthly payments, some do silver, gold and bronze, I always go with the vet fee's up to £6,000 or £7.000. as vets bills can be very very hefty. I am with Marks and Spencer.xxxx

Re: Which insurance to avoid?

Avoid E&L we was them for 8yrs 7 of those 8 years we insured 2 dogs we had a claim of just over £2,000 and life long meds of £110 a month an never paid a penny. I must admit the only other claim we had made was for£200 and they were quick to pay and paid the vet direct, so mabe for large bills best avoid.

Re: Which insurance to avoid?

We won't be renewing with a particular company (not sure I dare say which) but we had six weeks free and made a claim then continued with the full insurance after the six weeks was up, made another claim and they wouldn't pay because they said it was an existing condition - yeah, with them! I'll be opting for Petplan next time they always pay out.

Is that the one you get when you buy a kc reg puppy? I looked at that and decided not to even bother sending it off. I can't remember why, I think you had to pay 10-15% of the claim yourself plus usual excess so didn't see the point.

Thankyou, but I kind of want to know good/bad from personal experiences.

Yes thats the best way as they all sound good, they are wanting you buy their insurance after all, thats why i gave you 2 examples of the company we was with, dont touch them.

Re: Which insurance to avoid?

I am with tescos and have been for many years. In March this year Red was diagnosed with leukemia. I rung Tesco and I was told that because I had not renewed the existing policy (I had gone online bought the better policy and got the new customer discount) that I was still within the 14 day exclusion period and as such would not be able to claim, i just hung up As you can imagine I was devastated.
I dont know what made me do it but a few hours later I had calmed a little (and got a bit angry). I rung them again and I got through to a really nice girl who looked into it, clearly saw that I had in fact been a customer of theres for a very long time and was told that my claim would be assessed as any other would!!! yay triumph!! I have spoken to this lady sinceand have been very impressed with her helpfullness and empathy to our situation.
The actual claim itself has gone very smooth. They send a load of forms and the vet does them in his own time and they send my a cheque for each form sent. We were very lucky that the vet actually stopped billing us after the first £500 and just waited until the insurance cheques started coming through. When I rung them after the first cheque was went they told me that on average they are processing decisions/claims about 3 weeks after recieving the form. Which IMO is an acceptable amount of time.

With regards to who I will go with when I get my next dog; I will be getting a golden retriever puppy (health tested and everything) BUT I m still very aware that the cost of something as serious as HD could be very very high so the £4000 per year lifetime cover Tesco offers as its higher cover IMO will not be enough for her.
Sorry for such a long post, just wanted to let you know of my personal experience. Please do let me know who you decide to go with in the end.

Re: Which insurance to avoid?

hello

my old shar-pei was under Sainsburys pet insurance and I never had a problem with them. Chester is with M&S they paid out no problem when he went in to have grass seeds removed from his paw.

Just waiting to hear from them about his x-ray ...hopefully we will have no problems
