hi all was wondering if anyone has their dog or pup on orijen? have been on reviews and an analysis site and it sounds like such a good dry food am thinking of weaning my pup on this now when she comes home

I have my pup on it and its excellent. I put him on it at 5 1/2mths because of stories of excessive protein having detrimental affects on their skeletons. The amount he grew in the first 5 months on a regular food I saw no reason not to change him over. He has maybe grown maybe 1/2" at withers since then. I originally had him on Burns mini bites which I recommend without question for pups. Gives them good attention, less agression, no over activity.
Orijen though is super again theres been no change in his behaviour at all and as a foundation food its one of the best I have him on just above minimum for their feeding guidelines.
What would you like to know?

I have had 2 puppies on Orijen, one of them a rescue that was with me for 5 months. Both did well and both now on adult. No problems at all.

I changed the resuce dog, a little terrier cross boy, over from his Beta food over a few days. Went OK.

is it right that a grain free food is far better for them?

grains like maize isnt easily digested wheat can give skin irritations corn is supposedly poisonous. Rice is fine and digested well - maize isnt that bad but really doent offer anything.. really added to bulk foods up. Orijens as superior food without doubt You dont need to fees then as much as its basically a roast dinner at every meal

Orijen is a good food, but Applaws dry food is even better. It is 75% pure chicken and 25% vegetables and no cereals and best of all my dog who is very fussy loved it. The pproduct uses all British ingredients and If you call them (0800 083 0599) they will give you a sample. Apart from chicken the food contains cranberry, rosemary, seaweed, carrots and lots of other natural extracts

The Applaws seems good but its the price of the food which lets it down I think.

I would recommend it, orijen also contains glucosamine and omega oil, really good for anybody let alone dogs..

There are no grains in it, the carbohydrates come from sweet potato, rather then rice. My dog could never digest the rice.

The running cost is average even though it looks so expensive, you really don't need to feed too much.

Many owners are skeptical by high protein, but I don' t understand why. The barf diet would be one of the most natural way to feed a dog and it is all raw bone meat, fruit and vegetable, but you need to supplement; orijen is a complete meal and the people on the barf use this food when travelling.
