Lump under dog's skin

Hey guys, new to the forum.

I have a 7 year old black Labrador, and he has a lump under his skin, I'm going to go into detail about it because I'm sick of getting vague answers:

It's hard
It's perfectly round
It isn't hot
It doesn't hurt the dog to touch it
It seems to be attached to the bone

Personally, I would just rather take him to the vets, but my mum won't take him because she thinks It's just his bone (She thinks this because It's in the middle of his neck) So I would really like If you could help me and If you have any questions I'll answer them.

Hi There

In my opinion this dog needs to see a vet, no one on here can tell you anything.

Re: Lump under dog's skin

I would definitely take him to the vet if it seems to be attached to the bone, I've always heard that movable lumps are less serious.

Re: Lump under dog's skin

Has he had an injection around the site of the lump recently?

I have had similair lumps on the neck after injections.

Re: Lump under dog's skin

Not sure where the lump is but if it is just under the jaw it could be an enlarged lymph node and unfortunately could be lymphoma or (hopefully) enlarged due to something less serious.

If he was mine i'd get it checked, good luck.

Re: Lump under dog's skin

I just tried to convince her to take him to the vet, she told me I was being stupid and to stop getting upset. She protested that he has "always" had this bump, which is a total lie.

I just don't know what to do, she's not listening to me and she just brushes away everything I say. I told her that I won't be able to relax until she takes him to the vet but she still didn't care.

Re: Lump under dog's skin

HI, this sounds exactly like what one of our Cairn terriers had on his neck, like a lump of gristle beneath their skin but not attached to their bone or muscle? We took him to a vet, unfortunately I can't remember what it was called but it was completely harmless to him, even though it did get slightly bigger with time, we just took him in regularly to make sure it wasn't becoming an issue. So take him to the vets and don't worry too much until you get the full picture

Ah, best to take him to the vets asap then. Your mum is probably fearing the worse but by ignoring it she's just risking it getting worse when at the moment it could be managable.
