I'd be inteststed to know what medication he's on if possible for future reference. From doing loads of research when Missie was alive, speaking to various vets and speaking to a surgeon in America that has carried out canine kidney replacement operations, I was led to believe it is a terminal condition. The only possible 'cure' is a kidney replacement which aren't available in this country.

As far as I'm aware there is no actual treatment for renal failure, just supportive and preventative measures for the rest of the body if caught in time. If there have been some scientific break throughs over the last few years I'd love to be brought up to date please.

Didnt realise Roxy had to be sent away sorry about my post there.

Ill have a chat with Chris Snuggles and see what her boy is on, all I can say is he was diagnosed early/mid last year and by September time he was back to good health. Hes still as lively now - so ill ask her when I see her

Is it possible that your friend's dog has kidney disease rather than kidney failure? My old gsd Kudos (RIP) was diagnosed with it when he was 7 and he was on meds and a special diet, but he went on to live a full and happy life, finally succumbing to a severe stroke at 13 years of age. I think with kidney failure it is sadly terminal, and often very suddenly and quickly.
