scratching poodle, help!!

Hi

I hope someone can help us. My 6 month old miniature poodle Cato is going mad scratching the corner of his mouth. We have taken him to the vet who has checked him for fleas etc and given him ear drops. He rubs his face against the sofa or anything else he can find but he is driving himself mad. We have thought it may be his back teeth but they look fine. Any ideas??

Re: scratching poodle, help!!

Hi

Thanks for all your advice, Cato is our first dog so I have no experience whatever. It can't be clipper rash, he has been doing it before and after a clip. I have given him an antihistamine today to see if he may have hayfever. We have removed things like air fresheners, his mixer biscuit, and many other things he eats to see if he has an allergy but can't find anything that the removal of has stopped him itching. (sorry, last sentence sound weird!) He is on an all natural diet that is mainly tripe as I have heard that is really gentle and anything else can cause allergies. He won't eat dry complete food at all. We have changed his shampoo to a hypo allergic one but no luck yet.

We have thought it may be teething, he seems to have cut all his new teeth but some may still be growing. Could it cause such trouble?

I feel so sorry for him when he starts rubbing his face or scratching. Today he seems to be rubbing his eyes more than scratching. I may have to take him to see another vet for a 2nd opinion.

Re: scratching poodle, help!!

Hi all,

Thanks so much for trying to help us. In answer to the last 2 questions I do not use Febreze and he doesn't yelp in pain. He just scratches like mad. My husband thinks it is his back teeth coming through but I think it is hayfever. Probably we are both wrong!!
