Does any one have any tried and tested remedy's to help keep my dogs relaxed on Bonfire night. I have just had a look at some product and am a bit overwhelmed by the amount of different ones and don't know which ones would actually make a difference.

Any recommendations would be great

If you stay cool yourself it usually shows confidence that nothing is the matter... if your dog scares easily - say at passing traffic or new things I wouldnt take her out at night at all. You could venture into your garden with her and just not make a fuss... if she ties to run off call her back and act casual - some good praise and no big drama kind of thing. I have been taking my two out as usual -theres only a few going off up here nothing major, im just getting my pup accustomed for the big night, his may work too

They are both very confident dogs and are not jumpy nervious dogs at all, but the shear volume of fire works on bonfire night scares all my animals cat included, so this year i was looking for a product that would help calm them before they get too stressed.

One the best course of actions is to ignore nervous behaviour. If you fuss and reassure a dog, you are confirming its opinion that fireworks are big scary monsters.

You could try playing with then and aking a huge game of things when they start to go off. Or just go about things as you normally do.

Try not to go outside when they are going off. One of my dogs was having a wee when one went off down the road. The sound combined with the sight has made him fearful. He went 6 years being fine with them.

Dorwests Scullcap and valarian - comes in drops which are great for the cats and also in tablets -more for the dogs.Our clients at our practice last year had very good results!

I use Bachs rescue remedy and it seems to take the edge of her. Without it, she is a nervous wreck with fireworks (we are in edinburgh and have a few firework displays throughout the year). However, although it doesn't completely calm her it is a dramatic improvement and just gets a bit wound up. Also chamomile in their feed a few days before would settle them (Chamomile tea is most useful) and also spray lavender in the rooms.

Most pet anxiety is a reflection of the owners attitude-if you keep calm and ignore/pretend there are no fireworks, your pet will relax.

This is our new pups first Halloween, she is 9 months old and the house across the street has just had a large firework display. The pup was interested but we ignored the noise, and asked her to return to bed. She did and is now fairly happy.

Ok heres Teds story, he is one of the most nervous dogs of noise that i have ever seen, suffered for 10yrs with fright fron fireworks till i tried him on Anxiety tfln, gave him a few drops as directed last year and didnt have one night where he was scared, it didnt space him out just really calmed him down, been using it for the last couple of days cos the idiots have been out letting bombs off!!
It be can be given in advance or works quickly even when they are going off.
