We've put a bed for him in the kitchen (its not a massive kitchen) and i was going to put his training pads in there for now. I suppose when he has had his jabs i would prefer him to go outside to go to the toilet!

My boyfriend grew up having a dog but he doesnt really remember his dog as a puppy so we're excited but just a little bit nervous about his first journey home as i obviously want the little pup to feel as relaxed as possible.
Im sure once we get him home everything will be ok.

Most accidents will be due to you not reading his body language a pup has no controll over his bladder till at least 6 moths old so be vidgilant , he will need to go to the loo on average every 20 mins take him in the garden let him sniff around use a command such as go wee wee , something you can use all the time to associate with toileting , always praise when he has done his business , and try not to punish him for accidents , as i say pup needs to be told by you where to go he will be very unsure at first so he may be secretive and wee when your not looking , also if he has slept as soon as he wakes take him outside ,after play and after food most pups will toilet aout 10 - 20 mins after a feed , A crate is a great idea we used one for Daisy last year it gives the pup somewhere to feel safe and you know he will safe at night in it too , we use pads but only at night in her crate dogs dont like soiling thier bed so this will encourage him to stay dry quicker , .

A small space is best if you cant get a crate at short notice how about a box with his bed in somwhere he will be warm , A good tip is to put a hot water bottle under his blankets for added warmth at night and maybe leave a little light n for him too , dont expect sleep for a few night till he settles but try not to go to him too many times as this will teach him that if he cries you come running .

dont worry about treats, you could have a go at making your own homemade doggy treats, i have put a thread on myself with delicious doggy treats that he may like. and making the treats yourself, means that you know exactly what is going in them, adapt them and its cheaper as you can make alot of them to store.

With toliet training you start with the training pads, then eventually move them to the door to the garden then you remove the pads so the dog will go and sit by the door when he/she needs a tiddle.
With regards to basic training I would definately advice puppy classes ( ones which use positive rienforcement)- as if he/she is your first pup it is great to have advice and reasurance along the way and it is an ideal way of socialising the pup.
