Ear Infection with DDB

My Pup is now 6 months old and we're going through our 3rd bout of Ear infection. Apparently its quite common in Dogue de Bordeauxs, especially when their teething.

I wondered if anyone used anything different from what the vet gives to prevent infection. Ive been cleaning her ears out regulary with Antibacterial dog ear wipes, but its got wiffy again.

Problem is its £5.00 shy of my insurance excess, so I get nothing back
I did loose it with the vet though, as she refused to except the 2nd time I came it was for the same problem, as I'd came back a week later. Consequently rather than me being able to get the 2nd lot of fees back from insurance, she wrote it down as a seperate occasion and charged me over £50 again!

Have you tried Thornit canker powder. My cavaliers used to suffer from ear mites/smelly waxy discharge from the ears etc.Treated them with thornit and it cleared up straight away, i put a little in their ears once a week now and havent had a problem since. No more scratching or smelly ears its great stuff. You can get it off eBay.

Thornit is really good - but may be you need to treat the cause and not the symptoms at this stage? What are you feeding? We had horrible ear problems with our dog, such that the last vet wanted to make her deaf to cure her. We changed her diet to totally raw (Natural Instinct - High Quality Natural Dog Food) and I swear the infection cleared within days. Cut out all wheat, grains and cereals from the diet, as these can harbour yeast infections such as in the ear and the gut.

I have heard of Thornit, think I may get some and forget going to the vet.

Thanks everyone!

She is a raw food diet...exactly the same from the day she started to eat. The breeder feeds all his dogs raw, so Sadie's never known anything different. She does some nice healthy poos, and is full of life.
Another DDB owner did say its quite common around teething time, which is definatly happening at the moment, as I keep stubbing my toe on a pointy tooth

Thornit is great but you could also try collodial silver.

It's antibacterial and anti fungal, i buy mine from Higher Nature and use it in ears and on wounds.
Works like a miracle
