LOL, I don't think so.

Yeah I would take the bone away, ours don't tend to bother with the bigger bones once they are clear of meat, definatly don't eat half of them! Greedy Labs!

40% bone is enough in my opinion so I would remove the big bones once they are starting to actually eat the bone and give a fresh meaty one.

I have put cod liver oil into her dinner tonight and the veg pulp i do then freeze had some in too she is still straining to go, the little bit of fluid that comes out when dries is white im assuming this is the bone. she had plenty of veg pulp this eve so i,l keep my eye on her , difficult to say if its her being in season thats making her a bit off colour or the constipation , will she just eventually go , how long should i leave her this way before i should be concerned that it might be something like a blockage .

to me it sounds as though there is too much bone in their diet! maybe cut down the big bones as there is bone in their raw diet!

keep us posted!

Re: Daisy is constipated ???

Its a difficult one as weve only be doing this for 2 weeks and this is the first time any problem has risen , weve had n runs and nice poo,s good breath ect , I think it may wel be that unlike some dogs ours will actually gnaw on the bone grinding it up and eating it a bone can start off being double the size of your fist and after 3 days it will be half the size , I,l start taking the bones off them once they have cleaned it of meat and fat ect so they cant eat much of the bone . I never gave constipation a thought as when they used to get bone off our butcher at weekends they would eat almost all of it but i guess as they were not getting bone in thier general diet then it wasnt an issue , we would have whit poo,s for a day or so then nothing more , Trial and error i guess , this one i will remember as its horrible watching her trying to go and not being able to .

Re: Daisy is constipated ???

Daisy is no better this morning , i gave her some fruit with cod liver oil this morning and rang the vets , i was advised to give her lactulose 4 ml and then again this afternoon if no improvement , i also have an appointment for her in the morning just incase , she had had an accident in the house over night , a liitle bit of poo in it was quite a sharp looking bit of bone but it doesnt look like thier beef bones , then i remembered about 5 days ago she found what looked to be a lamb bone in the park ( unfortunately people or fox,s having raided bins have left bone lying around ) we managed to get it of her but not before awallowing some so maybe this is whats causing the constipation , we also had a chinese on sat eve where i had ribs she may have managed somehow to get some bone out of the bin , but she doesnt normally do bin raiding thats Jessies trick . Oh well ive got to go to work shortly and wont be back till 7 but my O/H will be here today to keep an eye on her , ive given her the lactulose she has just tried to go again and all she does is clearish looking fluid a few drops . hopefully she picks up later if she manages to poo eventually .
