Haven't posted on here for a while but really feel I needed to say something about this thread!
On Friday morning I phoned our vets as Sandy our 7 1/2 year old cocker spaniel hadn't been right for a day or 2 and I was a bit worried . They said they would phone back sometime that morning. An hour passed during that time I came on here and just did a bit of research while I was waiting for them to return the call. She had a supsected case of Pyometra earlier in the year but it had just turned out to be an infection which cleared up with anitbiotics so I hadn't really thought any more of it and it was honestly something I didn't really know that much about.
Reading this post I started to put 2 and 2 together. She had vomitted that morning and had runny no 2's I know it sounds daft but when I phoned the vet I had said she was having trouble going to the toilet and had been sick at the time that was all that was obvious. She had wet at the top of the stairs in the house that morning and in all the time we have had she have never wet indoors so I knew she wasn't right. I had noticed the previous day she was drinking more but didnt realise this was something that would turn out to be such a tell tale sign of something so serious. After reading that thread I realised that apart from the discharge she was pretty much showing every sympton.
I immediately phoned the vets back instead of waiting for them and said look I'm worried it may be this so they said yes it was probably something they should investigate and bring her in at 2pm that afternoon. By 2.15 she was on a drip and heading into the operating theatre!
She had to stay on the drip overnight but we collected her Saturday morning after possibly the worst sleepless nite of our life. Today she is a lot brighter and getting back to her old self. Back to the vets this evening just to check on her wound.
I just wanted to say a HUGE!!!!!!! thank you as that thread might possibly have saved her life had I not seen it and a few others on the subject I also read that morning and recognised the symptoms she may not be here today so we cannot thank you enough
I know I don't post often but whenever I need to know something this site is always my 1st port of call and thank goodness it was this time!!! I am ashamed I didn't know more about it and so I could have spotted the symptoms sooner. Every one with an entire female dog should read that thread I am still can't beleive that for something that is so common and so life threatening and I didn't know about it!
We have never been so happy to see that waggy stump as we were on Saturday morning so THANK YOU Pets forum
