Exercise for puppy

Hi

Our Airedale puppy Humphrey is now five months old. I have started walking him twice a day, a short 15 min walk in the morning and a bit longer in the evening, say 25 minutes. He seems happy walking this far, but i just wanted to check that this wasn't too much for a puppy of this age.

Many thanks

Rich

Ok now the question is how far do you walk - you could be a speed walker that covers the ground and walks miles and miles in that time or you could be strolling and taking your time and only covering a short route

Re: Exercise for puppy

I always go by 5mins for every month of age per walk, so 25mins per walk is fine, obviously no heavy running yet

Re: Exercise for puppy

Thanks for the replies. I don't walk particularly fast with him, i suppose we cover between a mile and a mile and a half max in the evening, less in the morning. We don't tend to do more than 25 minutes, so that sounds about right. We also don't let him off the lead much yet, so he does not sprint around much.

Re: Exercise for puppy

The general rule is 5 minutes per month of age, twice a day.
So for a 5 month old dog that would be 25 minutes twice a day.
Hope this helps.
