Smile brushing teeth??

i have tried my dog with dental chews etc before however she doesnt take to them and shows no interest in them at all... so today we bought her a doggy toothbrush and toothpaste, tried putting some of the paste on my finger first n let her lick it off but she wasnt very impressed! tried a tiny bit on the brush but she wont let it anywhere near her mouth.... just wondering if anyone has any alternative ideas?? or ways i can get her to like/tolerate it???

Re: brushing teeth??

we used to use a toothbrush that you put on your finger that was quite good...thinking about trying 'plaque off ' for my two...not sure if it works?

Re: brushing teeth??

I just started using a product called petzlife on my sheltie it seems to be working already. you can google it not sure if its avail;able in the UK or not...Jill I took before pics on the 2nd on the 12th I'm taking new pics and I'll post them on here see what ya think. Her teeth were bad when I got her and brushing helped but not enough so I'm trying this to avoid putting her under for a cleaning

Re: brushing teeth??

There is something you can put in their drinking water - but I'm to tired to think what it's called at the mo.
I brush Lilly and Zippers teeth but Lilly is still getting some build up so the vet has recomended we try it if brushing isn't working by our next visit.

Re: brushing teeth??

Never brushed our 5 year old's teeth, a combination of good diet and a good cooked knuckle bone every now and then does the trick - the grinding action scrapes the teeth clean.
Less hassle than toothpaste!
