How good is Burns or James Wellbeloved dry food

I thought I had finally decided on which food to give my hectic 9 mnth GSP (Arden Grange) as I wanted to lower the protein level from the Eukenuba Puppy/Junior I am giving him at the mo but the normal Arden Grange adult food has only 1% lower protein levels (AG-25%, E-26%). Will this make a difference and someone has now suggested Burns or James Wellbeloved (both 24% protein I think).

I have decided to give him one meal of Nature Diet and one meal of dried food. Your help would be much appreciated.

Re: How good is Burns or James Wellbeloved dry food

I tried Arden Grange but my Oscar didn't like it (and i tried all the flavours )

I settled on James Well beloved which seems to suit him but Burns i know is also highly recommended on here.

I found Nature Diet too rich for him but that is very unusual. I still give it as a treat and just "deal" with the consequences

I think any of the above are fine just see what suits him but remember any change needs to be made gradually

Out of those two, id go for Burns.

Couldnt tell you anything about the protein level though. Im not convinced that all hyper activity is dietry related. You do have a very high energy breed, and i wonder if you would see any difference if you changed his diet.

Thanks for the reply, I have been giving Oscar Nature Diet for about a week now for his morning meal but this morning about five minutes after eating it he promptly brought it up again at my feet. Do you think it's just a one off?

Had he been running around before or after?

Thats what happened with my Oscar on it.

And the other end wasn't great either .

I would give smaller amounts while he gets used to it

I do try and make sure he has been in from his walk for at least half an hour before feeding but as you know he never really is an inactive boy so he's always running around.

Does he gulp his food? You could try feeding the naturediet stuffed in a kong. This will keeep him busy for awhile and stop him from bolting his food. Vomiting is often related to them taking in too much air when eating. A raised bowl can also help.

Believe it or not he's a very delicate eater it's just everything else he does at full speed! He does seem to like Nature Diet and it's the first time it has come up again so I think I will just have to keep an eye on him (he does eat out of a raised bowl as I used one with George my previous GSP).

I can't remember agonising over George's food like this but maybe I feel that I may have saved him if I'd fed him an exceptionally good food - sounds silly I know)
